The head coach killer

No one was hired since Jimmy except for Gailey who needed several years of success at Georgia Tech before a failed return to NFL at Buffalo.

You dont come here unless no one else will hire you or possibly trying to revamp a career where again no one else is knocking on the door. Cowboys are a graveyard for HC’s since Jimmy.

And why as sad as it is for many Cowboy fans , Garrett is probably as good of puppet as we can expect. We need to focus on how we can prop him up.
brain transplants are not yet an option.

Every week there’s a new thread about some hot shot college or pro head coach that someone thinks would be a great head coach here. OMG, the lists are almost endless and they usually contain people that Jerry would never hire because they would steal his spotlight, or they are people that would never lower their standards to work for a meddling fool like Jerry.

Have you ever noticed that when a head coach comes to work for Jerry, their NFL career as a HEAD COACH is toast? If you look at the list of 7 former Cowboys head coaches under Jerral Wayne Jones, only two went on to be a HC again in the NFL, and neither were successful.

Jerry is a head coach killer. After working for Jerry, his former HCs are never the same or better. Here’s what I mean- Let’s look at the 7 former HCs we’ve had under Jerry and how their career went after leaving Big D:

1. Jimmy Johnson- left Dallas in ‘94- became HC of Dolphins from 96-98, had two winning seasons and won a playoff game but was never that great again. Retired from coaching.

2. Barry Switzer- HC here from 94-97. Jerry fired him after 97 season and he has never been a HC again.

3. Chan Gailey- HC here 98-99. One winning season, zero playoff wins. Was not hired again as an NFL HC until 2010 in Buffalo. He was fired there in 2012 with no success.

4. Dave Campo- HC here from 2000-2002. Three straight losing seasons. Never hired as an NFL head coach again.

5. Bill Parcells- HC here 2003-06. The HOF coach restocked the talent pool here but despite making playoffs twice in his tenure, never won a playoff game. Parcells has never coached again after leaving here.

6. Wade Phillips- HC here for 2007-half of 2010- had three winning seasons, but won one playoff game with what was the best talent we had had in a long time. Phillips has remained a good DC, but has never been hired as a HC again in NFL.

7. Jason Garrett- HC from mid 2010- present. Two playoff appearances in 8 seasons. You know the story. Raise your hand if you think Garrett has a future again as an NFL HC. I’m not raising mine.

It appears that working for Jerry is not a boost for a guy’s head coaching career in the NFL. He’s a head coach killer. Jerry is a “King Midas” when it comes to making money. He’s the opposite when it comes to his on field product.

So again...why would an up and coming star coach want to come and work for this 76 year old meddler who still thinks he’s a football guy? Or why would a formerly successful old school guy want to come here and put up with the circus Jerry loves?

I believe unless Garrett pulls a miracle this season, which is extremely doubtful, he’s gone at seasons end. My hope is Jerry allows Stephen hire the next HC. I’m not a huge fan of SJ but at least it’s not the “curse of JJ”. Maybe SJ will reverse the coach killing curse of the last two decades.

Your thoughts?

Bad hires rather than coach killer I think!

He is 2 for 7

Damn it diehard, you always have to come here and B***H slap us with reality and then drive that trueism down our opinionated throats!!! But I cannot, at this time disagree with you 1 ounce.

If Jimmy Johnson had stayed, the Cowboys would have won at least 4 straight SB's. He choose to leave and coach for a less than stellar Dolphins team. He should have stayed.

Jerry isnt a head coach killer

Most of those guys listed were always considered better coordinators than head coaches
exactly plus to add to it Parcells and Switzer knew it was temporary as Switzer brought out of retirement and Parcells about to retire, he was ready for GM FT work etc those other guys some should have never been hired and others were better Coordinators in the first place.. this list is so skewed and really doesnt have any validity AT ALL

Parcells was the only one that was ever a proven NFL head coach before Jerry hired him, and I have a hard time believing he couldn't have got another head coaching gig if he had wanted. Barry had already been retired from coaching for quite a few years before Jerry hired him, so it's not a surprise he chose not to coach again after. Other than Jimmy, the rest were never alive as head coaches for Jerry to have killed them.

In Jimmy's defense, he did not have total control in Miami. He wanted to get rid of Marino and they wouldn't let him. I'd be curious to see how that would have turned out...

Isn’t that another indictment of this owner/GM? He’s never seemingly interested in hiring a HC with NFL bonafides. Other than Jimmy and Parcells, it’s a list of guys without much NFL HC pedigree.
