One ,does it help the defense?
Two , does it hurt the defense?
Three , does it have no effect at all on the defense.
I’m talking about the cowboy defense.
The reason for this. The Chicago Bears held the ball for almost an entire quarter more than the Cowboys. I believe it was like 13 1/2 minutes.
On offense we were snapping the ball sometimes ,with over 20 seconds left on the play clock.
I don’t recall the exact quote from Jimmie Johnson. Being tired makes cowards of us.
Personally, I think it did well for the defense to put that much extra time on the field. Down the road it’s only going to help them. Endurance wise.
Love the game my cowboy family.

I think it is a great change of pace when it is working. Downside to the hurry up is if you go 3 and out too many times. Defense gets no rest and right back on the field.

It's a double edged sword....If you're moving the chains and getting points that's the best friend for a defense. They can play super aggressive if the offense is putting up points. After all if your offense puts up 40 who cares if you give up 30?

As a defense if you just get off the field and then your offense goes a quick 3 and out especially in hurry up mode you have some upset defenders. They've barely had time to talk through the blocking schemes, route combos, etc the offense is throwing at them and what adjustments they need to make.

The Cowboys have lost the time of possession battle pretty much every game this year, but the Bears game is the one that really didn't bother me. Take for example the Eagle game though and the extra time on the field absolutely destroys your defense when you really need a stop in the 4th quarter.

One other major advantage is it prevents opposing defense from subbing players and puts defense at risk of too many men on the field when they do try to sub players. GB and Rodgers are the best i have seen in catching teams trying to get players on the field

Agreed. I know as a defender I always hated when we would play hurry up teams in college. Not only can you not sub but you really dont get time to think. You're just focused on getting the play, getting lined up and you stop thinking about all that prep work you did through the week. Down & distance, formation tendencies all that goes out the window when you play a team that really does the hurry up well.

NFL these days are so package oriented, you have DC who have groups they want in on certain downs and situations. The hurry prevents this and defense get caught in poor situations with wrong personnel grouping

I like it. It mixes up the tempo if nothing else.

Just don’t be stale or predictable Moore, that’s not much to ask, is it?

If the two choices are
A) Go hurry up, score points and only hold the ball for a couple of minutes
or
B) Don't go hurry up and go three and out or maybe get one or two first downs, using a minute or two

I think the answer presents itself rather opaquely.

I think hurry is good to change up tempo but not something I would run for the majority of the game.

No, you can't really do it the whole game. For one, who can remember that many plays in a row? But it would wear the offense out, and at one point they'd probably start getting sloppy and making mistakes. I'd prefer to use it when the regular pace isn't quite working, and they need to either keep the defense on its heels, or the QB needs to do it just to get out of his own head and play more reactive, so he doesn't overthink things.

This is why Rush was 4-1 and the D was playing " great " . Dak only does half decent under the "hurry up " . But the downside is it Taxes our D big time . Especially , against top teams who run and wear us down . Not sure why we've gone back to it . Time will tell .
