The Ideal Draft

I'm going to assume that the value at 27 isn't there and jerry trades down.

DAL Trades there 1st (27) to Cleveland for their 2nd, 3rd, and 5th.

2a) Brandon Spikes - Great value here. He can sit behind Brooking for a year before he takes over, and can play on certain packages his 1st year. He's a great fit for what our D runs and Wade will fall in love with him

2b) Mardy Gilyard - The ideal slot receiver, or can even play out wide. Doubles as our PR and KR, and he'd be that explosive piece that can put us over the top on Offense and even more on ST.

3a) Jared Veldheer - One of the best Tackles in D1AA, has great size and could sit for a year, or potentially start day one.

3b) Myron Rolle - Can start over Hamlin immediately. I know I'm going to hear ' he's not a ballhawk, not enough picks' etc and i was one of those guys, but he should have far more INT then his stats indicate. Has great range, can play both safety positions, one of the smartest players, good size, and he's the type of guy you want on this team. All around safety. He'd be a steal here considering if he didn't go to Oxford he'd be a 1st round lock. Love this guy.

4a) Rodger Saffold might no be available, if thats the case John Jerry. O-line depth.

5a) Walter Thurmond Corner depth, great cover guy and would be perfect in the slot, before he matures and eventually replacing Newman. Never have enough corners.

5b) Terrel Troupe D-line depth, prototypical Nose Tackle. If spears isn't resigned Rat can move over to d-end and Troupe would be the perfect fit at Nose. And I don't want to hear keep Ratliff at Nose, if he's dominate at Nose imagine what he could do at end, his natural position. Ratliff and Ware on one side is unfair.

6) Leigh Tiffin Perhaps the most important selection.

7) Kelton Tindal This guys speed alone at 6'3 should warrant him a selection.

Possible UDFA - Leroy Vann , Emmanuel Sanders.

I can see us dealing some of our later picks but I don't want to make it to complicated. This draft fills all our needs, and would make us super bowl contenders for years and years to come.

I could live with that draft except for a few changes. I would change Gilyard for Ducasse OT/OG, then I would change Rolle for Jacoby Ford, who is faster, gilyard runs the 40 like 4.51, Ford is extrememly faster. Then I would change Salford for Blount or Tate. Only other thing I would do if i could, I would try to get like an extra 6th rounder in there somewhere and draft center Erik Cook since Gurode is like 31 not many more years left for him either.

So, would look like this
1. Brandon Spikes ILB
2. Ducasse OT/OG
3. Jared Veldheer OT
4. Jacoby Ford WR/PR/KR
5. Blount RB, big bruising back with speed
6. Walter Thurmond Cb
7. Terrel Troupe NT
8. Erik Cook C
9. Leigh Tiffin K
10. Kelton Tindal WR with blazing speed 4.22 to 4.27

This way you have 3 young starters on offensive line by end of year or next year, with Doug Free coming on too.
A speedy wr on kickoff and punt returns, and Kelton Tindal to groom as deep speed guy opposite Austin, with jacoby ford helping on special teams and in critical 3rd down on slot and razorback formations with choice. Adding in a great kicker, and a war horse like jerry jones said when they pick in first round, if an old war horse is there they would take him. To me, Spikes with his intensity and temperament might be a young Ray Lewis in the making at linebacker.

Drummond and Blount with Troupe can grow and help the team later.

yeah but when Ford runs a 4.1 at the combine he won't be there in the 3rd. And your changes look pretty good, but what about that safety we desperately need. You don't like Rolle ?

I just dont like his speed range at free safety. I would rather have a cornerback that the cowboys might possibly move to safety with speed and range. I go by what parcells said, you are what you are, the stats for rolle arent just there, in terms of making plays and interceptions. To me if you dont make plays on the field in college your not going to in the pros. You are what you are. I do believe that speed kills too.

Ok, I broke down the cowboys roster in one of my mocks with players that i thought wouldnt make the team, ; but here is it again.

Mcquistan gone
Deon Anderson I think is gone too
Proctor is gone
Holland or Duke Preston is gone
Kicker is gone Suishan
Hurd is gone, possibly in a trade
Cletis Gordon is gone
I also think Crayton, or Barber will be traded too
Patrick Watkins is gone
Steve Octavian or Curtis Johnson is gone

then you let the players you drafted fight it out with brandon williams, brewster, hodge, jason williams

You keep turning the bottom of that roster letting players know your not going to stand pat and just keep them on the roster, they have to keep improving. that only makes your team stronger, and possibly being able to trade some players for value.

Lol it doesn't have to be Cleveland I just thought of a team in the top 10 who would most likely accept the trade.

The only way I can see a team trading with us is if a QB falls late to us or someone wants to grab a Tebow or McCoy before a team like St. Louis might.

The only player on that list that I would draft would be K Tiffin.

If you think these players are so great, why wouldn't other teams jump all over them?

I'd much rather have many other players than what is on your list.

Although, I wouldn't get upset if the Cowboys drafted those players on your list. Maybe they will pan out. Who knows?

If we are going to trade back and I am all for it especially if our pick is not there (Iupati, Thomas), then I would want Pouncey due to him being so versatile (OC, OG, Rt).

I rather have
Zane Beadles, Utah

John Jerry wil be gone by then
Terrel Troupe will go higher than the 5th

I could say the same thing about many mock drafts then.. I don't think there 'great' but I think its realistic and it fills all of our needs. We would be good for a very long time.

roger saffold is a very quality tackle who would be great value there. Also John Jerry might slip down there, if anything though troupe is the only wishful selection as I might have him to low. We'll see in a week.

The "ideal draft" isn't specific picks but an approach to the draft. Regardless of how well you feel you know the players, its impossible to determine what ideal is really.

ideal is the concept of something in its abseloute perfection or excellence, so its a overall opinion on how I feel my mock is. I think it feels our needs and its pretty good. It does in a way relate to the specific picks. Ideal draft in other words is ' the perfect draft '
