It would have been interesting had the right player been reported or announced by the officials.

Since the Cowboys did not know #68 was running a route, it was an easy catch since there was no reason to cover him.

If the Lions had not tried to confuse the defense and followed procedures, they could have actually won the game had they converted it.
that shows how one bad call can affect the outcomes of teams in the playoffs. esp this close to season end.
That play has been swept under the rug by goodell and nfl owners hmmm.
It affected the cowboys, eagles , and detroit. changed seeding for all 3.

and since the play was so convoluted and so many mistakes by refs, ny office, teams , coverage etc it makes it worse, and none of it will be corrected
for the future.
I watched the game again at the end there was no announcement on the audio (the pa)

Yeah, I tried pointing that out immediately after the game, but most non-Cowboys fans and even some Cowboys fans fail to understand that the reason the play actually worked was that the Cowboys had no idea #68 was eligible to run a route and much less catch a pass.

If they had known, they would have tried to cover him. The play may have worked or they may have scored a different way, but we have no idea because they intentionally confused the referee while trying to confuse the defense.
Its pretty straightforward

I am so $&@“@&$ sick and tired about all the hand-wringing and whining about the 2 pt play

1. The refs did not “get it wrong”. They announced 70, the Lions could have corrected them and announced 68, and they didn’t.

2. The Lions have actually said they were trying to deceive Dallas… why this isn’t talked about more is baffling to me

3. They had 2 more chances to convert… and FAILED. It’s not like the penalty ended the game. They could have gone to OT— but chose not to— and they didn’t get it done

End of story. Dallas won that game. Detroit was just lucky to even have that opportunity at the end of the game.

Lastly, even if Dallas had lost that game, we would be no worse than the #3 seed considering the outcomes yesterday. We still would have won the NFCE.

We would’ve but what’s crucial is two home games in a row. It’s very annoying this is still a conversation I agree. This should’ve been a one or two night thing. Discussion should end once you talk about the missed tripping call.

It's kind of amazing how many people are overlooking that fact. If no penalty had been called, like so many people are saying should have happened, the Cowboys were deceived by the refs giving them false information.... Think about that...
I haven’t heard anyone say no penalty should have been called. They say the ref obviously just messed up and announced the wrong player as eligible. I think everyone understands that once 70 was announced and they snapped the ball, what unfolded was numerous penalties that had no choice but to be enforced.

One lucky play has changed the dynamics of our postseason. Without it, we lose, with little or no chance to win the division and no home playoff games. But here we are, divisional champs and two wins away from the NFCCG.

I mean, don't we still win the division if the Eagles lose to Giants and we beat the WFTs? I know nobody expected the Eagles to lose to the Giants, but it was inevitable. Their 11-1 start was just because they were last year's darlings, and got all the love the refs could give them.

Many here were saying that the refs were helping the Eagles out. They just aren't the same dominant team they were last year. Even last year, they weren't as good as everyone kept saying. Granted, they were good. Just that, there was something about the league trying to make them relevant again. I don't know.

Pretty sure we still win the division. Maybe we don't get the 2 seed. But we still win the division. The issue with that call vs. Detroit, though . . . only one guy can report. And that's not what happened. So, it was a legit call.

Did you watch the game?

Cowboys out played the and deserved to win

The play wasn’t “lucky”. They didn’t hard a tackle because he wasn’t announced as eligible.

Previous fake tripping call negated the game ending before Detroit got the ball back.

I’d say the Cowboys had a lot of bad luck in the game.

I really hope Dan Campbell doesn’t win Coach of the Year. His decision making has sabotaged any chance Detroit had. Now LaPorta might be done for the playoffs.

I hope these last two games were good practice for the cowboys on being prepared for trick plays and plays were the other team gambles. I mean first the Lions gamble on us and kept going for it and ran out of luck. Then the commodes kept trying their luck yesterday by going for it on 4th down. Maybe our guys will be more alert in the playoffs.

That wasn't a controversial call. If the ref got it wrong, then the Lions needed to correct him. The controversial call is the tripping penalty. HOW CAN YOU CALL IT ON THE WRONG TEAM? Even more stupifying, why didn't one of the other refs correct the call? That's controversial. That's ineptitude of the highest order.

The end of the game was a farce that was precipitated by Detroit's stupid decision making. They did something fancy and ended up stepping in their own poop. Dallas beat them. Period.

I want to beat the Packers and the Lions to beat the Rams. I want to see Dallas roll the Lions in the Divisional Round so all of this can be put to bed. Although, I'm sure there will be talk about it cost the Lions the 2 seed and playing the Divisional Round in Detroit.
