I had numbers wrong...

The NFL went to a 16 game schedule in 1978, which means the first 5 games constitute a smaller percentage of the season.
Since then, they've made the playoffs 77% (10/13) of the time when starting 4-1 or better.
When they've started exactly 4-1 in a 16-game schedule: 73% (8/11).
When they've started exactly 3-2 in a 16-game schedule: 64% (7/11). This includes two of their SB years (obviously including Emmett's holdout year, when they started 0-2).

Not sure it's as big a deal as you're suggesting. Of course, with Seattle looming...

what happen in 2008?

We had two three-game winning streaks that season, but sputtered the rest of the time, finished 9-7 and didn't make it in.

That was the season that ended with the 44-6 beatdown by the Eagles in the winner-goes-on game.

after losing in embarrassing
fashion in our last game at texas stadium..

Our last 4 game win streak was in 2011 when we started 7-4.

We then lost 4 of the last 5 and missed the playoffs.

I'll never forget that game.

Eric Dickerson won't forget his 248 yards in that game either...

Very big game IMO.

They have a stout D. And a QB with a killer beard!

So we have never been 4 -1 to start a season in the Jason Garrett era after how many years????? Now considering we have had a franchise QB for the entire Jason Garrett era, I find that unacceptable. I have to call them like I see them. Sorry Hos, I love and respect you, but I just don't get the Landry like accolades you heap on Garrett. there is nothing he has done to earn them. I know this thread is about how we do when we are 4 -1 and, trust me, nobody wants this team to succeed more than me, but color me unimpressed with Garrett so far.

I just want to defend one thing. When have I ever said I was satisfied with the wins and losses? I haven't, and I am not. I am satisfied with what I see being built. There is a really big difference. I do not see Garrett as a Landry, and my praise for him is no different than my praise for Parcells was. I really can't tell you why so many people dislike my appreciation for Garrett. I don't get it.

How many wins do you think we get this year?

I think we get 10 wins myself and a playoff berth.

Hos, I hate disagreeing with you but you have pushed the Garrett = second coming many times. You are one of my favorite posters on this site and wish you would still post as much as you used to. Actually, I truly hope Garrett is what you think he is and would truly enjoy a huge helping of crow, but he has yet to prove me wrong. Maybe now that he has been reduced to less than a walk around coach and Linehan is calling lights out games, Garrett will have the records that were expected of him from the beginning. Personally, I have no doubt that you are just as bothered as me by his idiotic mistakes the last few years as I am but you can not express such given your positions you have taken in threads regarding Garrett = Savior. You are way too smart in all things football to think differently.

it's important because it's a game we should win, and the schedule doesn't get any easier

I do not see it this way at all. If you do, that's your right.

I like what I see being built because I believe that is how you create a winning program that lasts.

This is the corrected information for the OP where I missed the 1985 playoff game. If the Mods want to edit the OP they can and delete this post. Up to them.
