Bros, I don't know if people really appreciate how special this man has been. Don't let the overall state of the defense cloud your vision.

Micah is the first player ever to accumulate 50 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 5 sacks through their first 8 games.

Ever.

And dare I say he's doing it with an offense that has dominated time of possession nearly all season, limiting his opportunities, and a rather mediocre supporting cast on defense.

Recognize this greatness.

All hail Sace. King of the double bicep flex.

Agreed. The man seems to have a pretty rare combinations of size, speed, quickness and instincts. He is definitely a bright spot.

I am even more impressed that you could find a stat or I guess I should say a combination of stats that shows Parsons as the first player to accumulate 50 tackles, 10 of those were for losses, 5 sacks within his first 8 games. This is some impressive research.

This is cool, but the comparisons are actually what's interesting. Usually when people concoct these multi-stat groupings to say "he's the only guy that x, y, and z," it's because they're tweaking the numbers to exclude guys who are clearly better but didn't happen to meet one of the carefully-set criteria. With Parsons, well, there isn't anyone who's clearly better, but it does mask some guys who were basically as good.

Also: we only have TFL numbers since 1999, tackle numbers since 1987, and sack numbers since 1982, so "ever" really means "since 1999." So we don't really know how, say, Lawrence Taylor did by these numbers.

Here are the comparable guys, using these three stats:
Micah Parsons: 52, 10, 5.
Brian Urlacher: 57, 9, 6. (By setting the cutoff to 10 TFL, you exclude Urlacher, but his numbers were clearly not inferior to Parsons.)
Darius Leonard: 97(!), 8, 4. Wow.
Kendrell Bell: 45, 11, 5. (He's the cautionary tale.)

And then you get the full-time pass rushers, who don't rack up the tackles:
Joey Bosa: 24, 9. 5.5.
Nick Bosa: 21,11, 7.
Von Miller: 31, 9, 6.5.
Julius Peppers: 26, 9, 8.

My point is not to say, "Parsons isn't as great as you're suggesting." My point is to say, "holy cow, look at the company he's in!"

By the way, every single one of those guys I listed was the Defensive Rookie of the Year.
