Strum did some good work on how the jet sweep sets up a lot of plays for us in this offense.
I am certainly not defending lucky. The kid seems like a knucklehead to me, but not having it to feature last night seem to add to our offensive woes.
Who would have figured the loss of swaim and lucky would have an impact.

Am I off base here?

We haven't run the jet sweep much lately. Losing Swaim is tough especially when we also lost Hanna.

True but we have put lucky in motion and fake the threat of the sweep multiple times. Keeps the end and linebackers honest if nothing else

Lucky can't be the only guy on the team who can run a jet sweep. There is this guy called Dunbar they are in love with......

Swaim is a much bigger loss than Lucky. Arguably the biggest injury we've faced all year. Escobar is a major step down in two TE sets.

Lucky has blazing speed but with the poor return decisions, the fumble, and the issues he has he's become expendable.

One game he kept making the same mistake of returning the ball and would get up to like the 10-yard line. It was incredible. He did it like 3 times.

Then I see footage of him in the locker room slapping hands with Dez after the game with a huge grin and not a worry in the world. It's like he didn't care he almost lost us the game.

Wrong kind of guy. And Dez set a bad example with that. he's another wrong kind of guy.

Agree with the return woes.
I guess what I am asking here is how important is the jet sweep or the threat of it to our offense

Dunbar sucks....and isn't near as quick as Lucky. Hope to never see Dunbar dress again frankly. He's had his shots...and failed.

While I think it is idiotic to pull Zeke for Dunbar in critical situations, I am not sure Dunbar has gotten a fair chance to make plays this year. Most of the time he goes in there, he ends up pass blocking. When he does get the ball, its as like the third read in the flat on a play that has already blown up. They seem to want to play the guy, but then do nothing to get him in favorable match-ups--leading to the inevitable conclusion around here that he sucks. Its bizzare.

Not that important if he's going to fumble the ball and show up late to meetings or not show up at all. I know his friend Dez does it but he's one of Jerry's pets.

It's kind of unfair that he gets suspended for a game but Dez doesn't.

OP...you're not off base. Lucky has set the tone for us in many games. He's a subtle but big part of what we do. Why he was getting destroyed here is beyond me.

Actually we might have done better last nite if dez had been suspended

Well actually it's not my idea. I remembered a breakdown by strum highlighting how many things the sweep set up for us

Is Lucky the only one who can run/fake the jet sweep?
It's not just the jet sweep play you have to replace. It's the entire scheme.

They call running plays with Lucky in motion where he'll block a guy on the edge. A guy like Dunbar, or heck even Beasley could take handoffs from Dak on the jet sweep. But they wouldn't be able to block off the edge like Lucky.

I alluded to this a few days ago. The play might be used once or twice per game, but the way it's utilized in fakes adds stress to the defense.

The read/reaction of those linebackers and safeties can be slowed and confused for that extra second.

Agree.
And I want to add this to the discussion.
The one time last night we used a misdirection play, the fake toss to zeke and rollout pass to twill, resulted in our only points of the night.
It was if the coaches thought hey this is to easy, let's just play em straight up

Good question and I would say surely not.
Maybe a moot point cause jerry has already declared lucky will play next week
Lucky makes more contribution than many remember..

He replaced Harris when he left and has a lot of explosion.

I think getting him back into the passing game would be wise, too.

Terrence Williams and his 2-3 catches a game isn't game changing.
