The latest idiot phenomenon... Planking

lol.

Oh brother.

I love how all internet topics seem to come down to "you're just stupid. I don't like what you're doing so you're borderline ******** cause I don't like it." (Which I'll freely admit I've been part of that problem many times in my life. I guess it's just the old stand by for everyone when they don't like something)

It's a shame that people can't just talk to people anymore, and say I don't get something, without having to put labels on them for doing something they don't get.

I don't get people who like to smoke cigars and such, helping to cause themselves lung cancer, so i guess I should just think those people are stupid, ********, and such for doing something I don't do, or like.

Geez.

It's a fad. It's silly. It's harmless. Why does anyone care? I'd never even heard of this fad until this topic so obviously it's not all that popular, or hurting people, so I guess I just don't get whats the big deal either way.

Fireworks are stupid if people are stupid when using them. Planking is inherently stupid. Sorry, pep, this was a pretty bad comparison.

Concur.

Planking is nothing more than a wholly narcissistic attempt to garner attention and a few minutes of internet notoriety within your social network.

"Hey! Look at me! I'm a board! No! Really! Look at me! L-l-l-look at me? Anyone? Look at me? Please? I really need the attention...Somebody please notice me..."

Fireworks can cause destruction even when people use them as directed. They've probably caused a lot more harm than planking has.

Planking is not inherently stupid any more than anything else that is done solely for a laugh. Whether it causes you to laugh or not doesn't affect the inherent nature of it.

So it's just like anything else one person puts on the internet? Like a post on a public forum perhaps?

Yes, just like anything anyone ever put on the internet in the history of the existence of the internet, including any and all public forums.

Somebody get a bucket for the sarcasm dripping all over the floor.

A post on the internet fits the description you just used for planking to a tee.

Now I'm a bitter old man for offering a realistic potential psychological rationalization for participation within the fad?

Really? CouchScout's breakdown of Cowboys players helping to further educate the members of this forum, from a professional NFL scout's viewpoint, is a narcissistic exercise? Adding a link to a video that others might find amusing is a narcissistic exercise? Producing a series of links to newly published WW2 photos for those here who have an appreciation of world and military history is a narcissistic exercise? Give it up counselor.

Your inability to distinguish a typo from poor grammar is not surprising.

I'm sure you combed every post looking for an opportunity. And fell flat on your face in the process.

Correction: He "planked" in the process

don't really like being judged, do you? fact is, I don't know you, nor do you know me. basically, no one on this forum knows my IQ or my talents and I plank. therefore, judging someone who planks and calling plankers idiots is rather stupid in and of itself.

but yes, you're kind of acting like a bitter old man.:D

Planking isn't anything new. Boxers have been planking for years.

Real talk, you missed the point completely. Keep lashing out at anyone that doesn't like the "look at me" fad you've locked onto.

I really don't think any of it is narcissistic. But if you're going to claim planking is narcissistic, then the rest of this stuff is as well. What's the distinction between posting a picture that others might find amusing and posting a link to a video that others might find amusing?

I don't think planking is narcissistic as much as attention whoring. People feel they need to be the center of attention or some type of spectacle. My guess is they feel as if people watching them gives their lives some sort of value.

This was all over the news like 2 months ago.

I find it humorous myself, think about all the silly things you did when you were younger.

I'm sure a lot of you have pictures of you rocking big hair and an acid wash jean jacket someplace.

At the very least it gets people outside, and some of the pictures are damn right hilarious.

Fallacious comment. You do not know the motivations of all the individuals participating in it. Unless your definition of narcissism is simply bringing attention to yourself then you have done that very thing with your own post.

Planking gave me a laugh, which i think was the purpose and was successful.
