The latest idiot phenomenon... Planking

Don't bother man, it's just the same old "I don't find what you do to be meaningful, therefore it is dumb, and you are dumb, and I am right in every way" type of arguments all internet conversation takes.

No reason to try and flip anyone's opinion.

(For the record, I have never planked, and probably never will, unless I'm drunk or something).

The problem with the world today is that everyone thinks their opinions and their actions are valid because if someone disagrees ... well, that's just, like, their opinion.

This mindset is what begets generations of stupid people doing stupid things. There are inherently and objectively stupid people and stupid things, regardless of opinion. Planking rankings among that class.

I dispute that anything is objectively dumb just on grounds of what objective really means, but that's a separate conversation.

Ok, so I too find some (most?) planking dumb (like laying down on a table). There's other planking that I don't find dumb, like the escalator plank in this video, most of which is more like parkour than lying down on stuff.

The problem I find is when someone starts a thread with people lying down on a table, which then degenerates into "lol, all planking consists of lying down on tables, how dumb are these people".

The same as when people post videos of basketball players or soccer players flopping and say the same thing.

"Don't knock it till you try it" lends no credibility to the 'activity'. I've never pierced my nose, but know that I don't need to try it in order to know I want no part of it.

It's a dumb fad that's already out of style. Lying down on things and striking a pose as if one were a board? The level of creativity that must take is beyond reckoning, or just a brain dead person's idea of imitating rigor mortis.

I'm pretty sure playing with fire and objects that are explosive is a lot more dangerous than simply laying on an object face down as stiff as a board, which would make fireworks more stupid than planking.

but hey, that's your opinion. I'm going to continue to plank and be awesome(not because I plank, but simply because I'm awesome).
