The league has to do something about roughing the passer

Unfortunately I think the league is going to view it as a situation that it's better to err on the side of caution. I don't know if reviewing it will matter either, they tried it with PI and that didn't work out. I'm not saying it shouldn't be done but one has to wonder
If they will actually overturn what was called on the field.

Very good topic... i was about to start the same discussion...This could potentially become a issue like the horse collar... that really eliminated Roy W. aggressiveness... forces our defense to think about the tackle and will allow some passes to get off... I hope I'm wrong...

One issue I have is many of these QB are not light weight players, these guys like Allen, Jackson, Hurts are not small guys and if you don't put them on their butts they will pull the ball and run and often times will not slide yet you must be gentle with them? BS

The league has done something, they've chosen to throw flags if you just hit a QB too hard regardless of where you hit them.

Nothing changes tho except my stance now is if you get a kill shot.. take it, try to take the QB out the game.
That's what I've been wondering. When will D's simply start hurting the opposing QB? They're going to call stupid crapp anyway, why not make them pay.

In a situation like the complete BS like last night, I would love to see the penalized team walk off the field. Then every other team back them up. Make it clear that the players aren't going to put up with it. Embarrass the $%^& out of the NFL on its show pony. That'll get corrective measures taken.

The one against the cowboys was a bad call. You are asking large players to hit small moving windows below the neck and above the knees while falling, or following a juke. Refs need a week or two in geometry class to understand how a slight change of 1 inch on a moving target severely affects the impact point.

Ooooh, nice idea. Even worse, just stand up at the snap and let the other team score.

You are onto something here!!!!

How many of y'all were 100% convinced that you would see the YELLOW flag symbol on the TV screen Sunday after every big Cowboy play....I've grown so used to it....and guarded....that its impossible to immediately get excited.
I thought for certain they were going to flag us on the defensive TD. They even threw the flag but picked it up thankfully.

I miss the days when you could actually hit the QB. Why are they so protected? Because they make a lot of money? You can do most anything to RB's and WR's who, these days, are smaller than most of the QB's in the league. As long as you aren't doing something that appears to be intentionally trying to cause injury you should be able to hit the QB like any other player.

  1. As documented this morning, roughing the QB penalties are way down from where they were at this time last season. There have been some ridiculous calls, but overall, that penalty is down, and it’s not even close.
  2. The way they call hits on defenseless receivers, it’s not surprising if they do the same for QBs who are always defenseless in the pocket.
  3. What I have a problem with is some older (Brady) or smaller (Mahommes) superstars get those calls while other QBs who are extremely athletic and known for running don’t get the calls.
  4. I don’t see it becoming reviewable until the NFL reaches the point where everything is reviewable, especially pass interference, which is a huge call that actually changes games.
I hate the stoppage of time, which is why I wish there was a rules expert in the booth of every game viewing the replays that we see from the networks. That guy could buzz down and overrule calls that are not penalties (would take no longer than when refs pick up flags and say no penalty, but also call a penalty that was missed on big pass plays or long runs where a penalty was obvious at the point of attack that the refs missed but was responsible for the success or failure of a play. This wouldn’t take long and could be done before the team even breaks the huddle. This would eliminate coach’s challenges which is silly regarding the limits on those.

I also think teams rushing to the line to run a play when they know a challenge will overrule a play in an attempt to make the coach either miss the challenge or make it without his guy having seen the replay should be disallowed. It is basically subverting the rules and the attempt to get a bad call corrected. If the guy in the booth is in control, he could buzz down and the refs on the field would make the team return to the huddle while the play is reviewed. However, most of the time, I believe this would happen very quickly. We fans watching TV see it right away. There’s no reason not to have a ref correcting the obvious calls without prolonging the game and if the call is so close that he/she can’t correct it immediately, just let it stand.

Jones did have his weight on Carr last night and that is listed as a no-no. That's what put Romo out one season.

Jarrett's was ridiculous, that's tackle football.

However, the money is in the QB's and the owners are changing nothing. The officials are acting at their behest in enforcing this protect the franchise rule.

If you've watched how the promoting has changed, this is no longer about teams facing off. Did you catch those graphics last night with Mahomes instead of the team? It was all about the QB, not the team. It's the same with Allen, Herbert, Rodgers and the reason DEN gave up the farm for Wilson and CLE did for Watson.

They have made the game all about the QB and they're not about to let the golden goose get hammered. 20-25% of the cap is going to that one player.

I am more worried that Parsons and Lawrence voiced their displeasure. You just know the officials will be looking extra closely at them Sunday night.
