The League's Best D

Everybody talks about the high flying offenses of today's NFL. Who haven't even won a Superbowl yet.

When the Patriots opened it up and they destroyed everyone with Brady- Moss to make it to the Superbowl 17-0.

What brought them down?

Defense

Who haven't even won a Superbowl yet? 3 of the last 4 SB winners were top 5 in points scored.

When fully healthy, I think we're the best in the NFL. Let's just hope our offense doesn't ruin it before we get a chance to make the playoffs. Having Lee and Irving back for the playoffs could make us a dark horse to win it all.
We are 21st in defensive DVOA

Which team would you say has the best defense in the league?

There doesn't seem to be a clear leader and there is no defense like the Jags last season or the Seahawks during their legion of boom that could consistently shut down the opposition.

I'd say Dallas should be in the conversation for the best or at the very least top 3 behind the Bears. Dallas has no weakness and the only issue has been a lack of creating turnovers. However, the defense has changed that over the last couple of weeks and is trending upward.
This whole farce of officiating dictates the two teams that make it to the Super Bowl.

Dallas just had a penalty for the long snapper situating the ball, like the ref knows where to place the laces and position of the ball.

It's not like he moved it three yards for a first.

We see the center get it where he needs it for a successful snap EVERY down yet Dallas gets a flag that hasn't been called for 60 years.

That's a huge issue which will be ignored because there's no accountability. ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY....,.as a matter of fact.

Actually it was Asante Samuel dropping the game winning Pick Six on the Helmet catch drive.

We would be one of the best if we had a true safety. Heck Landon Collins type player would elevate this defense to an elite level. As much as they look pretty good right now, our team is very susceptible to deep throws with the safety duo we have sitting back there. We will definitely know better come Thursday.

A good defense is such a benefit to fall back on.

If Romo had this defense in 2014, we’d have #6. Maybe #7.
If if if ya perhaps your right and if Dak has it in 2016 you can say the same thing

This is 2018 and Romo is in the booth.hes in the booth cause his body could no longer endure the pain of the position. ( thanks for the memories Tony ) Every year you have the same opportunity and coaching and execution plays pivotal roles

Let’s see what transpires the rest of 2018

The Bears without a doubt. IMO it's not close at all. I like our defense but not being able to get off the field on 3rd downs is glaring to me.

Yeah, the surprising thing has been the Saints D...with the exception of the Rams game they have been pretty good. We are gonna be challenged on offense and defense.

I realize it’s 2018, but I was talking about 2014.

Dak would have advanced in 2016 with this defense, too. He was one play away as it was. Again, I realize it’s 2018 here. I’m saying that a good defense would have been really nice to have in those previous playoffs.

To Kelz's point. We are 29th in the league on defensive 3rd down. Allowing them to convert on 43.97%

I like our defense, but the Bears are way ahead of us. They have 20 INTs and 9 fumble recoveries.

We're actually 19th in the league in takeaways, with only 7 INTs and 6 FRs. Luckily our offense isn't turning it over much either so we're still +3 on differential, but still. We're not taking the ball away nearly enough.

Yet people are complaining about it nearly as much now that Richard is in town. It's so odd. Rod used to get bashed like crazy for lack of TOs

There isn't one in all of football. People thought the Wolverines were the tops until they got smoked. In the NFL, it is tough to have a good D with the cap and one injury can derail a D. Look at how just Lee being out opened up the run against us.

The NFL now is about which high octane offense can have a good enough defense and that relates more to turnovers than yards. Good offenses with opportunistic D's have won rings.

I no longer believe "defense wins championships" but it can lose them.

I keep hearing Dal has a good Def, never a great one .

Wow a buffalo sighting. I like it! If they had offensive weapons(including Oline) and had drafted Rosen instead of Allen they could be going places quickly.
Allen looked the part yesterday.

Rosen has looked extremely underwhelming. But both in bad offenses so we will see in time.
