I think you want them to lose and look bad on D just so you can say you are right.
I say this because of your constant posts about the defense being so awful....why don't you wait a few games or so and see how they do first.
LOL, I don't care about being right, lived too long with too many wrongs. I don't want them to lose but if they do, my money is on the D as the reason. And from his pattern, Booger usually only addresses something when it screams for help.

If we wait a few games to see how Dak, Zeke and the D perform, what will we have to post about?

Denver's young QB, and commercial real estate's loss, Trevor Siemian made his debut against the best D in the NFC last season and they sure look like they haven't weakened.

While they did run the ball, and well, to help their QB who had played one down as a pro, a kneel down, they also asked him to play the position. He made his mistakes but Kubiak kept putting it on him to make plays and as Dungy said in the pregame "can't play it safe with that position".

I hope our guys were watching the involvement of the entire team with their new QB who had also rallied around him at practice. And when he made mistakes, they didn't back off in their support.

Those complaints about Romo allowed to get roughed up by the refs, take a look at what they allowed to happen to Newton. And this league is concerned about CTE? If I were him, I'd already have my lawyer filing a lawsuit against the league.

But what was the best lesson to take away from that game last night, except that we should have hired Gary Kubiak?

The lesson is not for us because most of us already know. I hope Booger & Son watched that game and got a grasp on how good teams are built and just how important the D is, especially when you're starting a young QB. Booger is a "follow the ball" GM and Son is no better. Maybe they watch this game on Sunday a little differently and see that they've failed to help their young QB as Denver did and Elway is a former QB for cryin' out loud and he knows, why don't they?

I am not wishing for a loss but one, because of our lack of defense, would surely be a good lesson. We've had this gaping wound in this team for too long and been putting Band-Aids on it.

Great defense and great coaching. And throw in a solid run game.

Siemian was mostly horrible, but I do like the idea that lessons can be learned because it was a team win for Denver. Denver's defense was ok, but they didn't lock down the game to the point where they could just hand off and win. Lots of people stepped up and made plays and it wasn't just on one person. That's a model the Cowboys can follow to success.

I dont think he was horrible at all. That wasnt my take. Stats may show he didnt do much, but his poise I thought was impressive and some of the plays he made.

If we give up 35 pts a game we will have the pick of the litter again next yr., regardless of how well our rookies play.
I'm hoping they are in the neighborhood of last years d with turnovers added to the equation
I don't think we'll give up that many points unless we're scoring in the mid to high 20's ourselves.

If we resemble 2014, the other teams will go all out. If more like 2015, they'll play a more conservative and controlled game, play a little keep away from us but it all comes down to one factor. Can we consistently stop the run? The objective isn't to get to 35 points, it's just to beat us. We have up 23 per game last season and lost 12 games.

I agree and he made some really nice throws when he needed to and the best thing Kubiak did was send the message that his offense is his offense and more like Shanahan's than Manning's.

How about the possibility of Byron Jones playing well, and therefore allowing other players to do their jobs better. And the CB's staying with the receivers an extra second. So the DL can et better pressure. Not saying it is all on Jones, but you get the idea...like the combo of Thornton and Crawford getting an inside push to allow the DE's to do better.
Let them have a few games to gel and see what happens. Then when DLaw returns it can even be better.

What game were you watching...all I seen was a decent game and that he out played Cam...the smiley one...oh wait, he wasn't smiling after the game...

He did make some really nice throws, much more than a few poor ones.
What helped, was CJ Anderson and a good running game.
It gives us some more confidence as to what we already know. If Zeke plays like we hope he can play, then Dak will be successful also.

  • Pass rush is important.
  • The combo of Ware and Miller as pass rushers is deadly.
  • We need to invest 3 number 1 picks on the defensive line.
  • Let's follow the Elway plan for building defenses through a combination of draft picks and high dollar free agent acquisitions. Let's not be scared of spending money in free agency. It worked out for Denver, it can for us too.
  • If we are bad at scouting defensive players, can we give John fox and Wade Phillips a cell. Pay them 100-200k for some real assessments under the table.
  • Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Dak will be facing a defense that is far inferior to Carolina, so I expect him to be better than Siemian was. Dak's weapons to give the ball to are as good or better than Denvers's.

What Dak doesn't have is the defensive support that Siemian has. He has much less room for error, because his defense won't bail him out like Ware, Miller, et al. can bail out Siemian.

If nothing else, it will be very interesting to see how Prescott performs on Sunday.

I said he was mostly horrible, and he was. He threw an inexcusable (he's actually not a rookie) interception in scoring position in a close game, missed receivers all night long and provided little utility outside of completing simple passes. His QB rating was 69 and his QBR was an even lower 43. His only saving grace was that Cam had similar numbers in both categories and an equally bad performance.

Thanks meant Phillips. Thanks for the catch.

I wasn't sure what was going on, wasn't trying to call you out

It didn't seem like Phillips was too successful identifying & acquiring defensive players when he was here (but with the obfuscated environment he had to work within, we may not have seen the best of what he has to offer).

Am I forgetting how he did here in this respect?

1 A strong running game will allow an offense to move the ball even with a very inexperienced QB pulling the trigger.
2.The pressure Carolina was able to generate still forced Simien to throw up a few lollipops to the defense.
3.Fortunately we're not facing anything near Carolina's(or Denver's for that matter) defense all season until we face Minnesota.
4.The threat of the read option with good blocking and mobile QB will be fun to watch.

Just gonna like your post cause you used the word " obfuscated" and I haven't seen that word in my entire life. So now I'm gonna look it up......ok now I got it. Hey and thanks for being so polite and cordial.

You're right, there might have been issues with him as a head coach, but as a D coordinator, I think he's one of the best. Have a good Friday and weekend....and Go Cowboys!

Problem is they will allow 35-45 a game.

What's your rationale?

We gave up 23.4 last year (16th in the league), and that was without Scandrick or a healthy Tyrone Crawford. We've replaced Nick Hayden with Cedrick Thornton, are allowing Byron Jones to concentrate on FS and moved Brandon Carr back to the right side where he flourished in KC. Mo is healthy and has had the best offseason of any Cowboy, and Anthony Brown is looking like an absolute steal.

I don't get it.

For all the chirping about defense wins etc keep in mind that Denver still scored 21 points. How many times did we do that last year?

Newton got a penalty called for the one direct hit. The one on the sack by Ware is hard to call, it was more about him falling into the path of Miller than it was about Miller hitting his helmet. There has to be a little discretion.
