Now I would not have picked a DT in the first just because they have not picked on in e the first for 32 years, but with only 1 DT coming off the board in the first round, the Cowboys took the guy rated highly who can play today. McClay made the right argument.

But what if the Cowboys had signed Dalvin Tomlinson in free agency and Jonathan Hankins? Then they could have taken Bergeron, if they thought he was the best option at LG, and solved that problem too. With Martin getting older, they will need to address the RG position before long so having solved LG now would make that less of a problem down the road.

By not using free agency to solve gaps they box themselves in on draft day.
What combination do you take of the below ( you get 1 draft pick and 1 FA):
  • Tomlinson 14m apy (4 years)
  • Seumalu 8m apy (3 years)
  • Gilmore 10m apy (1 year)

  • Mazi Smith
  • Bergeron
  • Porter Jnr
I kinda think we choose the right ones but it close.

The tie-breaker between an OL and DL was won when Quinn decided to stay with Dallas. His reward for staying on was the 1st and 3rd picks.

If Mazi Smith can be close to what he's expected to be in the middle of that line, Parsons and Overshown become real problems for a QB and offense. Overshown is still a little rough around the edges and needs some work on finishing his tackles against better competition but he could be the D find of this draft.

Add Clark and Cox into that front 7 and Quinn has got some options for some really confusing sets and Cox's strength was making the most out of the plays he was in on at LSU. He has that natural nose for the ball, hope to see him play this season.

I think we are going to see everything from the 2-5 to the 5-2 and the objective from the OC's could be stopping Quinn from platooning to get specialists into the game.

Parsons was celebrating the 1st round pick; he should be celebrating the 3rd round one just as much. Speed is really hard to block.

We've been drafting well, so I could care less.
Why do people say we draft well? I mean, we draft ok, but I'm not blown away. Not even close. Parsons was an accident. We do pretty good in the first round when not counting Taco and LVE. Spotty in the second round. And ok to crap in rounds after that. This last draft wasn't much different. I liked pick 1 and 6. The rest I'd trade for one proven player.

Everyone’s kinda forgetting that Sam Williams has legit star potential too.

My point was not so much about who they signed but what they signed. I believe it might be better for the Cowboys to sign a DT in free agency only because they have a problem there. A rookie DT is not going to contribute that much. They rarely do.

I guess what I am saying is taking a OG at 26 in the draft makes more sense if they had a DT rotation they really liked.

My take: Way too many Jones in the war room.

MY take

when you own a 10Bil sports team/corporation you get to have a take. they belong wherever they want to belong. you all never are satisfied when they are on the Yacht or on Vaca, you upset, now they are there , upset. Never satisfied
I know it was sarcasm and half hearted joke but also know half was real.

LOVE this.

McClay is the man. Straight up.
as you can see it is a group effort its not a Jones sitting in high thrown casting down demands. this goes on all year, all offseason behind closed doors , the collective share input and decide what's best for team and roster, what I've seen is Jones' trust and listen to MM more than JG.

however Micah sure was happy with this pick and that important as he seems unhappy a lot.. i trust he must have watched Mazi play and wanted him so much he texted Quinn asking them to make sure Mazi was considered. yet our fan base think it was Kincaid and this shuts that down. the media and Buffalo were snowed over a TE was never considered in the 1st nor was kincaid/ Mayer really a choice. they had their own board and stuck to it not using Mocks. whatever the RAS means they used that and analytics to make their board.

Some see a high side to Fehoko as well.

The Cowboys are going to keep picking Fehoko’s until they hit one.
I’ll have to actually see Fehoko.

I saw nothing from Mazi Smith in college that leads me to believe he’s this defensive line anchor but I’ll admit his measurables point to high upside.

I’ve seen Sam Williams absolutely bully NFL offensive linemen and his position is hard to play.

all good points

exception cox

i think its either cox or Overshown.. Overshown is going to push cox off the roster IMHO. they play a similar position and games are close to the same with the exception even with raw Overshown, he plays with high motor and is all over the field and likes to make plays full Speed, hes bit like Wilson. Cox is slow as hes thinks too much, you take the player who goes all out every play and you can clean the mistakes up , the player late to read and react to plays that has you playing with 10 men vs 11, its that confidence that dissipated with Jaylon and why he was let go IMO..

they already did on smaller level , Armstrong had similar rating coming out of college and took bit of time adjusting to the nfl but he arrived last year.

I say we've drafted well because we've won 12 games in back to back seasons with a roster of players we've mostly drafted...
