I said from the beginning that Garrett was safe because he's family and Booger is comfortable and every time some talk surfaces about Garrett being on the hot seat, Booger throws ice on that. Until now.

However, I am changing my mind because of the obvious effect Sean McVay had on Goff and the offense overall and Riley's rep as a QB guru. Same kind of coach with the same kind of personality.

Now, add to this, OU has the best OL in college ball so he's not just a QB guy and if they hadn't lost one of the best RB's in college in Anderson, they would be even harder to handle.

Add to this, it has recently come out that Riley would be interested in the NFL and sooner than later. Probably got that guy in Rodger's State Farm commercials as his agent.

So, if he's already letting it be known and he's considered this QB guru, what do the Cowboys need for the young QB they seem to want to keep?

There are going to be 6-8 HC openings and Riley will be the top college name but he's not coming for an OC gig, they're going to have to give him the reins to get him.

I now believe Garrett would have to do something extraordinary for him like win a couple of playoff games and get to the NFC Champs game or Riley is going to be the next DC HC.

sure he might take another job over us so IMO next best thing is Kingsberry have tyoyu seen what hes doing with 3 different QBs this year and he coached Mahomes correct? hes not on radars why? hes make a great OC but maybe a out of the blue left field guy like Mcvay..not many people knew who Mcvay was until his first games with rams, why not Kingsberry dude runs a crazy offense..maybe he can utilize Dak and also grab a QB in 2020 to develop...

Another thing about Riley...

It's one thing to produce against big 12 defenses but his offenses came out and produced against tOSU and Georgia as well.

I'm not an OU fan at all but I don't know how many times I've watched them play and been in awe of some of the playcalls and designs he has.

7-9 or better and Garrett is safe
Linehan and marinelli take the fall
Rinse and repeat

Would love, love, love Riley, but that Eagles win last night probably just bought Garrett some job security. One win alone's not going to do it, but losing last night would have basically ended our season and 6 weeks of lame-duck football following that would probably have Jerry getting pretty antsy. If we are competitive up till the end (as seems to happen in the NFC East), I think Garrett gets another season.

Same here, I am not remotely an OU fan but that's the scariest offense in college ball. A Bama-OU showdown would be some fun.

Usually, I would agree with that; however, the desire they have to keep Prescott and availability of Riley and thoughts he might do for him what McVay did for Goff has changed my thinking. It is the intersection of need and opportunity.

I don't think Riley's QB's are anything special, his offense just puts them in a position to succeed. Same with Kingsbury, they are great QB coaches who have dynamic offensive minds. I would love to see what Riley could do with Dak. If it doesn't work out, maybe Rush or White could catch on or get a new QB in the draft.

Have you actually watched Mayfield or Murray? They are special quarterbacks. No idea why you don't think they're very talented.

I don't know about that. I think he has watched what McVay has done with the Rams and what Pederson has done for Philly and it is gnawing at him that his guy hasn't produced squat in 8 years except a couple nice seasons he managed to put together against weak schedules following horrible seasons.

I think he has seen it, and he's anxious and envious. He sees Riley as a McVay/Pederson type and doesn't want to see him slip away. I can almost guarantee that when the college season ends, or even before, depending what direction this team is headed, that he will have conversations with Riley about taking over here and what that would like.

Barring a miraculously deep run to the NFCCG or the SB, I think he will finally pull the plug on The Process.

Would love to have Riley but why in the hell would he choose Dysfunction Dallas over the 6-8 other openings?

Well he's from Texas, and this isn't a complete rebuild. Much more of an opportunity to come in and compete than there would be with, say, NYG or Arizona.

Jerry, no doubt, will try to sell him on what Jimmy Johnson did too. Not sure if that matters or not, but there would be a similar story arc there.

Has Riley been living on another planet? He’s not familiar with Dysfunction Dallas. Lol

You certainly have a lot of insight to what Jerry is seeing and thinking. Sounds more like what you are seeing and thinking?

Yeah, I guess that's why I prefaced the entire thing with "I think..."

I apologize if I have offended your delicate sensibilities with this post, I was unaware that speculation and opinion were not allowed on this forum.

One thing that concerns me about Riley is that his teams give up a lot of points.

Ok. I just wanted to be clear this was mere speculation on your part based on what you are seeing and believing. You have no direct evidence otherwise.

I read that the Cowboys are showing some interest in Riley and I don't think that's just hearsay. I think the louder the media speaks about Garrett's shortcoming the more it becomes apparent that the Cowboys needs a coaching mainly on offense.

Cowboys have already fired their Oline coach before the season is over. They also traded their 1st round pick. Which goes to show that they want some instant gratification that Garrett can turn things around on offense. If he can't than they know they have options such as Riley.

I’m a huge Texas Tech fan and although I like Kliff Kingsburyas an excellent offensive football mind, he is not a very good college head coach and would likely not be a good NFL HC. He would be a great OC, but not HC. While HC at a Tech, Kingsbury is 35-38.

One thing I would endorse him for is his QB development. Before his time at Tech, he was OC at Texas A&M and developed Johnny Manziel, and before that he was at Univ of Houston, where he developed Case Keenum. At Tech, 4 of his former QBs are currently playing in the NFL including Pat Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, Davis Webb and Nic Shimonek. Kingsbury is famous for taking raw QB talent and making it into something. This year, his true freshman QB Alan Bowman was leading the nation in passing for a while before getting hurt.
