The Mendenhall-Felix debate has another chapter

And will go on to have a much better career.

But I don't think the pick is worth crowing about as much if Felix only plays a handful of games per season, or can only touch the ball a few times a game. We all expected more.

Not raining on anyone's gloating parade, just pointing that out.

i didnt get a chance to voice my O on draft day i hadnt found this board yet:bang2: lol so im not gloating, but i think i'm ok with felix the change of pace back. if he gets 10-12 carries a game and stays healthy and is still effective im cool with that. we have two every down backs that im confident in and IIRC we dont have to worry about losing one for three years.

I'm right there with you. Let's hope it happens. :toast2:

Glad this was in that thread so I didn't have to look for it.

"I think when adversity strikes he may fold tent," another scout said. "I don't see grinder mentality with him. I see analytical." Said a third scout: "I just don't know how he's wired. I don't know how competitive he is. I don't know how much he wants to take the beatin' he's going to take."

And another scout in this same series flat called him the p-word. Looks like they nailed it.

Felix was always the choice and the offensive staff had been thinking of ways to use him before we ever drafted him.

We didn't want a Barber clone, we wanted offensive explosion in the vein of Brian Westbrook. We got that.

Yes, we need to figure out how to keep Felix on the field but his per carry numbers are mind boggling. If we can get him a consistent 10 touches per game with his career average he'd score just under a TD per game and be at 95 yards per game. That's insane.

I remember being pissed that we didn't get Choice when we took Felix. I was like.. no Choice or Mendenhall? What the???? Then we took Choice and all confidence was restored...

At the time of the draft, you really thought that Choice was worthy of a 1st round pick?????........especially over Felix Jones?????????

Do you realize that Choice was taken in the 4th round? I never heard of anybody who ranked him higher than the 3rd to 4th round area.

Why would he call him a potato?

To clarify... I wanted an all around back. Someone I felt could play all three downs. Mendehall and Chris Johnson were originally what I wanted on draft day. We took Felix and my heart sank. In retrospect, Mendenhall was a bad call.. I already admitted that. Chris Johnson, on the other hand, is a STUD... I wasn't going to mention him though because this thread was about Mendenhall/Jones. I do maintain that CJ is a stud and I wouldn't mind having him on this team.

That said... When we took Felix I felt we needed more. Taking Choice in the 4th brought a relaxing calm to me. I liked the pick and felt we got that "all around back" when we took Choice. I was a huge Choice fan as soon as we took him in the 4th and still am to this day. Clearer?

#22 - Felix Jones "OMG NOOOO"
#23 - Rashard Mendenhall "Faint"
#24 - Chris Johnson "OMG.. Point me to the nearest bridge..."
#122 - Tashard Choice "Ok. That bridge doesn't look nearly as appealing as it did a short while ago..."

JJT and Stanleyspadakowski had some good lawls in those old threads.

And this is why I hate JJT. He writes like he is a know it all and has all the answers. Yet half the time he is dead wrong, especially in this article.

If he would write more objectively and not like his gospel (he's wrong more than he's right it seems) he would be more tolerable.

I keep hearing that ALOT of people here were upset about us drafting Felix over Mendenhall

:laugh2:

Lemme guess... Felix was "ya boy" too?? Convenient.

I wasn't completely up in arms over the pick. But I did prefer Mendenhall over Felix. I was livid when it happened but got over it quickly. And I was dead wrong.

Felix was my boy when everyone was on Dmac's jock. Desean Jackson too when everyone was saying he's too small.

Yes, a better debate would be Felix vs Chris. I'm just glad the Steelers didn't take Johnson!

Pretty sure I was upset we took Felix over Mendenhall. I'll happily eat that crow with the others. Chris Johnson was the real prize of those three, but Felix is amazing and I'm glad the Steelers were the ones making the completely wrong pick.

I was for Mendenhall over Felix, but that was because the Cowboys brass basically said they had Mendenhall rated higher than Felix. And my thought was, "Don't you take the guy you have ranked higher?"

That's the only problem I had with the Felix selection. If the Cowboys had come out and said, "we feel Felix is the best back in the draft or ... Felix is better than Mendenhall" I wouldn't have had any draft day problems with the selection.

Be that as it may, I'm glad Felix is a Cowboys. Now if he can just stay healthy. :(

It appears I was wrong there too. But I don't think Desean Jackson would have been a good fit for Dallas with T.O. on the team. We definitely wouldn't have wanted DJ to be learning how to be a prima donna from T.O. It seems as if he's learning that all on his own. Imagine the monster we would have created had the Cowboys selected him?

Anyone who wanted Mendenhall over Jones clearly had no vision of what this Offense was looking for. Not even the Merriman over Ware threads in retrospect achieve the kind of silliness that Mendenhall over Jones is. At least Merriman would have fit the Cowboys scheme.
