The Micah holding insanity

If the NFL is going to allow Parsons to continue to be neutralized by holding, is it worth paying him $20M + ?

Talk amongst yourselves.

I think he just doesn’t know how (or is unwilling) to “sell it” to the refs to get a call.

See: Fletcher Cox pirrouettes…
I totally agree with this. I also think that Micah's insane speed allows for him to break away from holds quicker, making it easier for refs to just let it go.

Parsons just needs to play better.. The other guys holding him is no excuse. Guys can hold him because he's not good enough to break free from their grip. He needs to get bigger and stronger so he can escape the holds. You can't just let the fact that the other guy is being allowed to cheat beat you. Just be better... <~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For anybody not paying attention.. that was all sarcasm.

It's impossible for Micah to be the best at creating pressure yet cant draw one holding penalty. Impossible.

Hopefully they come in abundance during the playoffs to make it up...

Holding is subjective. You and I could watch the film and almost certainly end up with different totals but I'd bet we'd all be well into the double digits.

I don't buy the theory Jerry tried to sell that officials assume he's not in position to make the play so they don't call it. I've seen holding calls away from the play every week of every NFL season of my lifetime as a fan.

Many will claim conspiracy. Anti-my team. I think this is more about the obsession to protect the QB at all cost. But a review would be necessary to see if the other top pass rushers also aren't drawing any holding calls. If it's just Micah then that would be hard to explain.

I'd be curious to see the data comparing Parsons to guys like Bosa, Crosby, Watt, etc. How many holds have they drawn? Have they had long streaks without holding calls, etc? If this isn't unique to Parsons, fine but if Parsons is a clear outlier, whew boy.

Another still picture purporting to show holding. Stirring the pot of emotion much? 23 holdings my left foot. Lol.

I gotta be honest. You exert an unusually high amount of energy and time trying to refute all the questionable calls against Dallas.

All I know is it just seems kinda weird that arguably the best pass rusher in the NFL has gone 42 quarters without ONE holding call. That seems totally improbable but then again, maybe this happens to guys like Crosby and Bosa and Watt and other elite pass rushers.

Just maybe, if they took his head off, they would at least have to call the medical staff.

Especially when there's a ton of video evidence that he IS being held. When I have some time though I will take a run at some play by plays to see what happens with some of the other elite pass rushers.. or if there are actual numbers somewhere on holding calls generated by a player.

My "energy" is about truth and anti-whine. This is my angle when it comes to these things: What's "weird?" There's been talk every season about a late season slow down from Parsons, do we know how many holding calls he's gotten each season, has he had similar stretches in his career, have other top pass rushers had the same or similar over the same time? All of those things could quantify "weird," but do you have the info. as basis for your "weird" stance?

This freakout over a number someone on the internet posts has zero context and gets people the attention they want to point to some victimhood. Reminds me of the 8 games with no holding calls on passing downs only Tweet. Looks like something rare, if not cherry-picked, without context. But it turns out the Lions had a streak of one less game the very same season. People are free to freak out over every random thing put out there but I'm always going to ask questions about what there is to support their freak out. Any flak I get is just those who want co-freakout company unchallenged. Not my thing.

The picture in the tweet was really obvious as it happened. You saw Parson's head snap back and he was pretty out in the open.

As others are getting to, I get wanting to protect the QB. What drives me nuts is that Dallas has had some pretty ticky tack holding calls against them. I'm not sure if I would ever call a shove to the head "ticky tack" but the cowboys have had a few illegal hands to the face calls on them just like what was shown. If this is the way the league wants to go, then fine. Just call it both ways. The statistical likelihood of no calls for Parsons while Dallas keeps getting flagged is pretty small.

I think sometimes he is too quick between the gaps, that the Refs cant see it and sometimes he doesnt sell it good.

And than its an offense game. Refs wont allow Top Pass Rushers to destroy every 2nd drive because the O-Line gets a Holding call every snap

I mean, do you really think that one of the most dominant pass rushers in the league not drawing a single holding call in 10+ games is indicative of good officiating?

The NFL has the worst officiating out of any major professional sports league. The amount of subjectivity in the modern rulebook is just rife for problems.

I'm not part of the "refs cost us this game" crowd because typically you benefit from poor officiating as much as it hurts you, but elite pass rushers like Micah, Watt, Garrett, etc seem to be officiated differently than your average player.

Now can someone research to see if other top sack leaders are also getting the same treatment. Are Myles Garrett and TJ Watt creating holding penalties?
You're asking for actual context? Can't you just freak out like these headlines are designed for you to? Lol.

Pretty sure Garrett had a couple holds called, in pretty close succession, when they played the Jets last week. Not sure about other guys.

I’ve come to the conclusion that he’s so fast it’s just hard to see. I’ve also concluded that we have no other pass rushers outside of Micah so he doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt….

I try to see it in a positive way:

In the playoffs they will call them in bunches.

Holding happens every play

but theres no excuse to go this many games without holding being called
I hate how this is a thing. 'Holding happens every play'. Why is it allowed, though? Call it every single time you see it. Guarantee players would adjust and be forced to block without holding. This whole subjective nature of these calls is maddening. So holding is on every play, so that means the refs just pick and choose when to call it? Yeah, this won't ever influence a game......

I am a Texas Longhorns fan. If you watched the Washington playoff game, it was the same stuff I see on a weekly basis with Dallas. Not called the same way at all. Washington was allowed to maul and hold all game. No calls, even on one of the most penalized teams in the country. Meanwhile, Texas gets called for EVERYTHING.

It gets old.

This is definitely an Illegal Use of Hands penalty. No question.

The rule is clear:

ARTICLE 3. ILLEGAL BLOCK BY OFFENSIVE PLAYER
It is a foul if an offensive blocker:

(a) Thrusts his hands forward above the frame of an opponent to forcibly contact him on the head, neck, or face; or

Note: Contact in close-line play is not a foul, unless it is direct and forcible, or prolonged.
Penalty: For illegal use of hands by the offense: Loss of 10 yards.

While it is in close-line play, it is clearly direct and forcible. I have seen this called against Dallas for incidental hands to the face or neck. This play was clearly flagrant and forceful.
