The Mike McCarthy Question

I've seen and heard a lot of talk recently about Mike McCarthy's job status... and while I think most of us thought he was on the Green Mile after Dak went down, they've rattled off a couple of wins against less than stellar competition and a lot of talk is about keeping him.

I'm not a fan of this and I'll tell you why.

I don't think Mike can get the job done in the playoffs and beyond. Do you?

To add to that, he seems like too much of a kiss butt for the Jones and doesn't challenge them enough to make the necessary improvements. (Look at this past offseason)

And finally: The Five-Year Rule: No team has ever started the same quarterback under the same head coach for more than five years and seen that duo win its first championship.

This conversation might all be for not as I also think we lose out here to finish the season and I think it will take care of itself. But I'd love to hear, who you want to be the next HC and who you think we'll get.

I don't have a super strong opinion either way. If there is an opportunity to upgrade the coaching staff I'm all for it. I also dont feel like this years roster gave the team much of a chance of success so given the talent and injury situations the coaching staff is probably about on par for where expectations should be. They've done some nice things, especially recently and have also had some headscratchers. Either way we need to make a better effort in player acquisition for it to matter either way.

It will be a topic that goes one way or the other until after the season is over. Meaning, out of the playoffs. Well once eliminated from the playoff hunt.

I do not believe anything the FO says on this matter either at this point.
Nor do I care all that much. I am fine waiting until January.

I do prefer they move on at this point. And will be disappointed of they do not. However, I won’t complain about it the entire off season either. Well, as of now I don’t think I would.

yes.
i believe he could if he had a real gm here.
but with the current dynamic...i do not believe it can happen.
however.
if mccarthy's bunch were to get hot at the right time...i absolutely believe he is a good enough football coach that he could win it all.
everything has to fall just right because of the current f/o dynamic tho.
and thats why its hard....damn near impossible for mccarthy...or ben johnson...or bobby slowik...or kellen moore...or kirby smart...or nick saban....or even pete carrol...to win it all with the owner being the gm.

I’ll say it yet again…MM isn’t a bad HC, but he isn’t given quite enough personnel-wise, and he isn’t on the level of guys like Shanahan or LaFleur….the two who have ousted them in each of the 12 win seasons.

Meanwhile Jerry and his kid think it’s about “that oblong ball” not “bouncing the right way.”

Pretty much yet another way to say they aren’t good at this.

I get that, but the head coach should have input into personnel. So, I have to give him SOME blame for the offseason.

See... this is where I don't agree... I don't think Mike can "win in the margins." History has taught me that he can't squeeze the extra bit out of the clock or the game plan that gets you over the hump in the playoffs.

This thread has NOTHING to do with Dak.

I don't think this board can have a conversation and not bring up Dak. Do YOU??
Point is, how do you know it's the coach and not the QB who is to blame? Dak is on his third OC now. Maybe it's not the coach's fault?

Imagine learning three new offenses, and they call him dumb. LMAO.
