Not talking about Frantic Fran Tarkenton who scrabbled around, I'm talking about that QB who can hurt you with his legs and you know it. I played RB and cornerback, when in vs a pocket passer you can give that receiver all your attention, something you can't do vs a running QB. Will he run is always on your mind.

So many good things can happen with a QB who can scoot. Big guys chasing anyone isn't good, they wear down, which makes everything easier in the 4th Q.

Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson are the elite right now all can hurt you with their legs and you know it so the defense has to defend that aspect of their game. Something they don't worry about vs Big Ben, Tom Brady, Matt Ryan.

Don't think ya need to get silly with it like we see with Lamar Jackson, ya don't need a 4.3 sprinter back there. but ya don't want a Philip Rivers either.

For years I'd think.....look at all that empty in back of the rush and in front of the down field action. That needs to be exploited. Well now it is, make a DE miss and there it is.....open field. 10 yards the easy way, if ya can motor.

I know I know.....Tom Brady can't break 5 flat in a 40 and is THE GOAT, but how many Tom Brady's are out there? He is the exception, that outlier.

Dak is a good run/pass combination, can hurt ya with his legs. Hell, Roger the Dodger.

Roger Staubach

I think a lot of those guys are closer to Tarkenton, the guy who you’re omitting.

Rodgers, for instance, is known for his scrambling ability, but it’s almost entirely in the pocket. He has run for the occasional first down, but A-Rod has never had a season where he accumulated even 400 rushing yards. What he’s done in 16 game seasons looks similar to what Tarkenton did in 14 game seasons… ie. Fran may have actually been the more successful rushing threat.

Pat is the same, he may intimidate with his ability to run, but he uses it almost entirely behind the line to avoid edge rushers. His rushing numbers thus far are even lower than Rodgers’s.

So i think you’re misunderstanding how Tarkenton’s running ability opened up lanes, when he was a bigger threat than either of those two SB champs to take off.

Cool, let's put Tarkenton in with the others, no problem. Been a long time.

The real questoin is what Hall of Fame QB returned punts?

Aaron rodgers has NEVER been a running threat. Totally bogus trying to fit him in there.

Tarkenton was considered a scrambling QB who was often criticized for unnecessary running rather that sticking it out in the pocket. Now of course one must look at the time he played as regards that judgement.
Roger was a scrambler as well. Aaaron Rodgers moved around to buy more time to pass. Nothing more.

Drew Brees most rushing yards in a season....130, Avg 1.5
Eli Manning....80/1,8
Peyton....157/1,5
Philip Rivers....102/1.6
Drew Bledsoe....158/2,0
Matt Ryan....145/3,1
Big Ben....204/2,8
Dan Fouts....170/2.1
Dan Marino.....hahahaha!!!
Tom Brady....119/1.6

Aaron Rodgers has had....356, 316, 369, 344 and five seasons with over 200 rushing yards, He has a stud RB avg at...5.0

Hell no he's not a Lamar Jackson, Michael Vick but he's also not like that gang above he can hurt you with his legs, he does possess that mobility. I never said....running QB...i made it very clear....mobile can hurt you with their legs. And he does do that, hell, I can out run Philip Rivers.

Bottom line is Rodgers does take off because he can, Peyton or Brady....hahaha!!!

So your argument is it’s really impressive they can accomplish so much without even being running threats?

Nope!

There was some doubt about is Rodgers a legit mobile QB, so by comparing his rushing numbers to all those guys we see a huge difference in yards and average. Yes he can hurt ya with his legs.

Watching Andy Dalton then Justin Fields ,there it is right there. Dramatic difference.

Huh? Of course Rodgers has been a running threat. Over his career, he has 8 of the top 100 QB rushing seasons. He's not Lamar Jackson or young Cam Newton, but his legs have always been a substantial part of his game.
