Here is what I have said for years...if you think Monk is a HOFer...then Keyshawn Johnson is a HOFer. So for those who do not think Keyshawn Johnson is a HOFer...let the Monk Argument go. In fact Keysahwn continues to play so he can put inflate his numbers so high that they will have to get him in. But to me it does not matter....he is a hard worker...good hands....shows up every Sunday WR...but teams do not gameplan for him...they do not change their defensive scheme to try and stop him and quite frankly...a lot of the catches Key gets is when other WRs clear out for him.

Lastly, I wish people would stop raining on the parade of Micheal Irvin BECAUSE Monk did NOT get in. Anyone who thinks they are in the same class as far as WRs go, they should not even be worth your time debating. Those timing routes he ran...you just DO NOT see that anymore. It takes tons and tons of practice....he was double teamed...often...so Troy would have to throw to a spot...and Irvin would have to be there. Without that, defenses would have just taken him out the game. The fact that they doubled him often is proof that defenses thought he was the guy that needed to be stopped. Nowadays...if a WR is doubled..most QBs do not even bother OR they try to move a guy around. Not with Mike..he lined up outside ALL THE TIME....everyone knew what was coming AND STILL COULD NOT STOP HIM.

Art Monk should be in. Period. I remember every time the Commanders needed a big play in the passing game Art Monk would be wide freaking open and I don't remember Monk having Aikman throwing him the ball. I remember Rypien and Jay Shreoder and and well you get the picture.

Listen I'm a die hard Cowboys fan and I'm still scratching my head wondering why Art Monk isn't in the Hall of Fame, he deserves to be in there.

as I have said.....if you think Keyshawn is a HOFer...then Monk is...I did not give my opinion one way or the other. Also, Irvin was better than Monk...get over it.

Um are you serious? Its not about who was better, its about who deserves to be in there. Irvin did, and hes in. Monk does and hes not. Youre seriously comparing Keyshawn to Monk?

Monk wasn't even the best receiver on his own team.

I stated the HOF was a sham when Wright was denied for years on end, and Monk being denied now proves this.

And Key is a great FB player, but he did not have nearly the impact or dominance that Monk had for his era.

This is about as weak of an argument, that I have ever read.

Even Irvin said Monk deserves to be in. Just last year.

In fairness, who has Keyshawn had throwing to him?

Vinny Testaverde (x2), Ray Lucas, Shaun King, Brad Johnson, Drew Bledsoe, and Jake Delhomme.

In fairness I didn't say Meshawn should be in the hall.

Monk played in three or was it four Super Bowls and had a league record for most games with a catch for a while.

He was the vertical attack that allowed Ricky Sanders to be the Commander Alvin Harper.

Art Monk isn't the sexy pick, his last name is Monk for crying out loud, but he was quietly efficient and James Lofton like to his team.

Lofton and Monk are very similar, very good, very important to their team's success.

They are not Jerry Rice or Michael Irvin or even Steve Largent or Lance Alworth but they are what they are, distinctly HOF wideouts.

This thread is a comparison between Keyshawn and Monk and you brought up Monk's lack of a QB.

Actually, during Irvin's speech yesterday, he said the Monk should be in...

Maybe next year...?

Arts closest comparison in the league right now is Marvin Harrison. Marvin has no signature big play in big playoff games. Marvin ignores the media just like Art did. Marvins YPC is also similar to Arts. Both played next to two excellent WR's. (Clark and Wayne)

Only thing about Marvin Harrison that seperates him Art Monk never played for an elite QB.

anyone who uses the extremely ******** sounding "meshawn" nickname in a sentence should automatically be flogged with cow paddies and hung upside down in a vat of poop

Harrison might have a lot of passing TD's but thats because he plays in a pass dominated systems where as Monk played in a team that strictly ran the ball down opponents throats in the redzone.

For two different eras, Art Monk and Marvin Harrison are the mirror images of each other. Quiet, media shy guys who seldom get overshadowed by other players of their times. In Harrisons case, his achievements have been hugely overshadowed by TO, Randy Moss, Chad Johnson etc.

Also whats ironic is they both played for the same college.
