The more I see Brock Purdys highlights the more I see Romo

Don’t quite see the Romo comparison but I did see poise from a young rookie QB. He looked cooler under pressure than our guy.

His throwing motion and movements was more sound than Dak who throws off his back foot more often than not.

WHEN IT MATTERED, HE WAS.

Your pet cat coughed up a hairball when it counted. BOTH YEARS in the playoffs against the 49rs
Dak played terrible. But did you think the Cowboys were going to win that game? This is before he played terrible. Most Cowboys fans knew we didn't have the better team. We just thought we had a punchers chance. Their offense was much better than ours before the coin toss. Dak is not a QB that can make up for that. Rodgers has been trying it against the 49ers for years. Going back to the Colin Kaepernick days. We needed the breaks. Then once Pollard went down, game over.

Don’t forget the real last drive of the game when he threw a pic 6 on the first play of the drive, lucky for him the lber dropped it

Man what a steal they got. Very jealous of the 49ers, I really think they are gonna go all the way this year and are set for the near future. The guy is a spitting image of Romo, from his scrambling to his release and the way he hangs in the pocket. I wish we got him.
I don’t see any Romo in him tbh but I’d trade QB for QB for sure but only because of their contracts. This team doesn’t need either of them.

Not even close. Purdy can read a defense.
Not sure I go that far.

SF managed Purdy well like we did with Rush at QB. He was asked to keep the game close and let run game and D take over. Occasionally make a throw with 1-2 options or throw it away. Purdy listened and played within the system.

He had nice poise handing the ball off other than that I don't see much in common with Romo, or any good quarterback. I think the 49ers will need a starter after this year.

Not really.

Shanahan and his offensive scheme might be the very best in the NFL.
- The scheme made it easy for Purdy.
- Shanahan tells him before the play exactly which receiving target and where.
- Purdy then pretends to look elsewhere waiting for his primary target to get to his spot.
- The only read that Purdy does is to find the checkdown if the primary target is not an option.
- On many plays the non-primary targets are already getting ready to block for the primary target before the pass reaches the primary.
- i.e. Only 1 receiving option is even looking towards the QB with the exception that they often have a checkdown option in the flat area.
- I remember a specific play where it was comically obvious where there was only 1 target.
- On my next review, I'll get the time in the game for that play and post it.

The Niners win the game even if they had swapped QBs with Dallas.
Have any evidence that shanahan tells him exactly where to go?

You haven’t been watching him. Quick decisions, excellent pocket awareness and stays comfortable in the pocket. Doesn’t look to just take off, he even does that little step up and then reset back again that Romo used to do. It’s ok if you haven’t seen him at all other than the cowboys game, I have.

I've studied far more game footage (All-22) than you.

If you paid attention at CZ you would implicitly know that to be true.

I never said he just takes off to run.

Shanahan schemes to get a specific receiving option open. That is often quick short passes mixed with running plays to eventually setup a intermediate to deep play.

The quick passes are obvious 1 read type plays.

The intermediate/long passes are designed around a specific target with all other routes designed to get the primary open. Purdy just has to wait until the primary reaches the area where he is expected to be open. If the primary is not open then he goes to the check down. If flushed by the pass rush he will look at other options as the receivers go onto scramble drill mode but he is not "reading" the defense at that point and he is normally just looking for the check down option when scrambling.

Romo often played scramble mode waiting for Dez to get open. It was impossible to design specific or complex routes for Dez because he is an all-time moron.

If Dez was the primary on an intermediate/long route, then that snap was basically scramble mode by design where Dez just ran around randomly and Romo had to play "where's waldo" to find him.

In later year's for Dez, they started just running him downfield on go routes by the sideline. That was the only route where he was somewhat predictable and it kept him from screwing up the routes of other receiving options (i.e. He was not bringing his cover man into Witten's area).

Purdy doesn’t make many mistakes.

In that regard he’s better than Dak and Romo.

We will see if that continues against the Eagles, which of course will be a much tougher test for the rookie.
One thing to consider is that Purdy has ALREADY shown that he is miles ahead of Romo and Dak at this point of his career ( and the first 7 games for Romo and Dak) and he has done it on a bigger stage than either one of them.

we are actually seeing it in real-time but hesitant to acknowledge it because it’s further proof that our last 2 qbs don’t have the IT factor.

No doubt, Romo had his issues at QB early on. He had the physical attributes (quick release). That pic against WA in the playoffs, I thought was his worst moment and he was probably done or maxed out as a starter. However, he began to improve/mature in his later years in all facets as a QB. He began to study/read defenses and he stopped making carless mistakes. Pocket awareness also improved despite having one of the worst coaches in DC history. With Dak, it's looking just the opposite and this year he has regressed even further. He needs mental and physical help or to change up his whole offseason routine. If there is further regression, he's done in the NFL.
