Campo as an assistant coach = very good

Campo as a head coach = very not good

For me, the most exciting coach hire this offseason isn't Campo. It's Hudson Hauck.

I going with the new O-line coach, Hudson ?.

If he can make our offense truly balanced, watch out.

We all know we had some problems running the ball last year. Maybe that is why Jason seemed to be more pass happy due to the lack of confidence in our running game.

Blue, you barely beat me to it. So I can only agree.

I like Campo as a position coach. He was just put in a bad situation as a head coach. He was in WAY over his head and had a bad team on top of it.
Man I hate it when you are right like that. :D

Personally, I'm not real thrilled with it. I don't dislike the man and I recognize that as a position coach he is a good one. I just don't like the feel of going backwards. I had hoped to never see him on our sidelines again. I preferred we go after Emmitt Thomas, then the Falcons shut that down. Then I was really hoping we would bring in Dennis Thurman and have Thurman's Thieves Part 2.

Do you recall who Phillips wanted? I seem to remember reports that they had to compromise on Campo b/c Phillips wanted someone else.

Did I miss it or is Thurman still unemployed at the NFL level?

I can see where you're going with this, but the same can be said of Campo. You can't diminish his ability to coach DBs. He did a fantastic job of it before he became the HC here. With your logic, if Campo can return the defensive backfield to what it was when he was here before, then opposing offenses should have a horrible time against us.

Campo is an excellent DB coach -- but I would have preferred that Phillips be allowed to choose his own staff rather than having a mole pushed down his throat. The hiring struck me more as building for Garrett's staff than for Wade's.

We knew that from day 1. But, that shouldn't discount Campo's success as a DB coach.

Yes you are right.

Except Campo is going to have an upgraded unit to work with, so you expect a higher level of play from them.

Hudson will have the same O-line under his command to work with. If he can produce a higher level of play from them, then this is an added bonus for our already pretty awesome offense.

If both these coaches manage to work their magic and produce, WOW, I'm talking some very strong units here.

I think our coaching staff is first rate. The only question mark IMO is Bruce Read. If return coverage doesn't improve, he may be replaced next season.

Phillips wanted Emmitt Thomas whom he coached with at Atlanta. As far as I know Thurman remained with the Ravens.
