The myth of long NFL turnarounds

Nah, it takes 31 + years

Year 31 ain’t looking too promising buddy

1996 Jets: 1-15

Hire Parcells

1997 Jets: 9-7

1998 Jets: 12-4, AFCCG

Dude has an insane resumé
Took Quincy Carter to the playoffs in his very first season. This was coming off the 3 straight 5-11 seasons. Quincy wasn't a good QB either but Parcells worked his magic that year. Too bad we were in QB purgatory the next 2 years with Testaverde and Bledsoe. 2005 had a lot of promise but went off the rails in the final month.

Really wish Jerry's ego would have allowed Parcells to finish out his vision but he only wanted him here to get the new stadium built. He's the one who saw something in Romo as a practice squad player. Him and Payton. 2007 should have been the year but Wade Phillips as HC paired with Jason Garrett, the stage was too big in the playoffs. To the tune we changed our entire identity come the Giants playoff game. We weren't some slow, methodical ball control offense that year and Barber was not the tone setter. Yet that's exactly what we morphed into. Signs of panic.

Hiring a new HC with the worst GM in the NFL at the helm is not doing ish. We've seen that scenario play out multiple times.
We have a serious dilemma. Jerry won't hire a mean tough independent sumabee... and a mean tough independent sumabee wouldn't want to work for him anyway.

Cowboys don’t have a turnaround plan. Instant success from one season to the next doesn’t happen here with the culture rot.

True. And it's not just that Jerry is bad, it's that he has to hire someone who is comfortable with his meddling and who won't steal the spotlight. His ego has been sabotaging the team for decades.

Patriots were 2-14 the year before he took over.
Giants were 4-5 in the strike season and 3-13 in his first season.

He is an all-time great in my opinion.

The company line that Jerry keeps selling that it is a process is total bull. Here is a list of teams who reached at least reached a conference championship game within the first 3 seasons of hiring a new head coach in the last 30 years.

Jerry has a 35 year plan.

Conference championships aren't an important benchmark. That's especially true in the NFL, when teams can fluke their way there.
We need some flukin' playoff wins then. To get to the Super Bowl would be a flukin' accomplishment for this flukin' team. Fluke them draft picks we sent to the Jets. We're flukin' all in, baby.

Should be another column showing the GMs.

If it went back to 1989 it would show "Jimmy Johnson/ Herschel Walker" as the GM

.......to get to the SB would indeed be a fluke

It's sad that we have relegated ourselves to thinking conference championships mean anything. Truly a sad state of affairs for our fanbase.
Conference championships aren't an important benchmark. That's especially true in the NFL, when teams can fluke their way there.

It's one game away from the Super Bowl. Even if you strip it out and just go with Super Bowl appearances, there are many examples.

How about winning a super bowl. I don't care about going to a super bowl to lose.

Not all of those are "turnarounds". Some coaches took over great situations.

Cool. We still have 9 examples of exactly that in this list. Jerry is selling a line of horse manure.
If we're using an average of 4 new HCs per year, 9 is pretty insignificant.

You're also not factoring what the previous team was. In 2002, Gruden inherited a playoff team. In 2015, Kubiak inherited a 12-4 division winner.
