With the state of our LBs any OC not running it 30 times and throwing at least 10 passes to his backs and TEs should be fired.

Like it or not the 4-3 might need to get dusted off.

DAT was a great guy and good player, but we've been fine inside with Shanle and James....between Fujita and Burnett, we should be okay outside. This is no cause for great alarm.

I agree we may be fine on the inside. Thurs. showed me that, despite Dayne's run. But I don't think we're that solid on the outside. In the past few games, alot of the RBs have gotten their yards by going outside.

I wish I could remember the article, but someone mentioned that both Fujita and Burnett have been equal parts ineffective.

We're gonna miss Als more than Dat, even tho I hate that Dat is shutting it down. I've read that when a player starts talking retirement, you might as well let him go, cuz his head is not as in the game as it should be...

We have two back ups starting, and guys that have played only STs and have not played in two years being forced into more prominent rolls.

This is huge.

Shanle is average at best.

James still is out of position a lot.

Ware is learning.

It has not clicked for Burnett yet.

Fowler sucks.

Fujita has looked awful since he's been starting.

Ogbogu?

Caver?

Barrow has not played in two years.

Yeah, we are fine and dandy.

Why is the sky falling all of a sudden...just because Dat is out?

Shanle has 2 less tackles than Dat. So If Shanle is average, Dat must be average also.

BTW. The Defense played just fine without Dat.

Dat has been playing averge since getting hurt. He is not 100 %. In his absence Shanle has been playing in his place. Our defense has been playing with this situation for several weeks. Why get all worked up about it now? We will be fine. Every team has to deal with injuries and we are no different.

I don't understand what you're trying to say, BZ. Either the Cowboys linebackers are good or they're not, but the state of the LB corps has nothing to do with Dat's retirement. The guy has played like 20 snaps total in the last 5 games and outside of the Niners game has contributed very, very little this season.

What part of Dayne's run makes anyone think the linebacking was O.K. without Dat?

Nonsense.

Dat pre-injury: 7, 8, 7, 3 the game he got hurt. 6.25 tackles per game.

Dat post-injury: 1, 4, 1, 0. Hmmm, just how valid is that total tackle comparison?

Shanle pre-Dat's injury: 2, 4, 4, 4. 3.5 tackles per game.

Shanle while Dat's out: 3, 2, 3. 2.7 per game. 6.25 versus 2.7, hmmm.

Shanle since Dat's return: 3, 3, 1. 2.3 tackles per game.

Too bad the stats don't add up for you.;)

Maybe because Dat only played like 4 games before getting hurt?

I didn't see Shanle yelling "Shovel Shovel". Hell, I've never even seen Shanle make a big play. In limited playing time the last few weeks, Dat calls out a shovel pass that potentially saves the game, and recovers a fumble vs Denver.

Dat is a great, great player, but don't overplay his impact this year. His shovel call was great, and he's done a handful of other great things, but outside of the first couple weeks he just hasn't done much of anything. And don't tell me falling on a football is some great acrobatic feat that could only have been made with Nguyen on the field.

I love Dat and all that, but the defense seemingly played much better this year with Shanle involved. If they lose Shanle, then there's time for concern.

Even still, they only gave up 233 net yards in regulation to the Broncos with Fowler in the game.

Yes, because teams NEVER ran the ball against Dat. This is totally a recent development. Before Dat went out, all he had to do is yell "Shovel" on every play and we totally dominated the opponent.

That and Dallas gave up 233 total yards before then. Surely they shouldn't allow that many yards against such a poor offense like Denver's.

If Dat were there to call "Shovel", Denver would have had 50 yards of total offense .... tops.

You have got to be kidding.

Dat was averaging 6.25 tackles before he got hurt.

Shanle is at 2.7.

Shanle had a terrible game against the Eagles, one of the worst games I've ever seen a LB play.

Plus, nobody has mentioned that Dat, an injured player that hasn't been at 100% for two months (and presumably wouldn't be at 100% all year) is being replaced by a guy who had 150 tackles the last season he played. Michael Barrow might be 35, but he's one of the top linebackers in the NFL for his age group. Is he a Pro Bowler? Of course not - but he'll contribute, and contribute better than Dat would this year.

We held one of the top offenses in the NFL to 17 points and under 100 yards rushing (in regulation), yet the 4-3 needs to be "dusted off".

Yeah ok.

Look at the points scored, yards allowed, turnovers, and sacks when Dat was starting versus Shanle.

I'm not saying Shanle is necessarily better, but since he's been the starter it's hardly hurt the defense.
