(1996-1997) Season
Rowdy has been the Cowboys' official mascot since 1996. His tenure overlapped with that of Crazy Ray who was the unofficial mascot of the Cowboys from 1962 until his death in 2007. ... Rowdy participates at every home game and selected away games. In 2015, Rowdy was named "Most Hated NFL Mascot" by Sports Illustrated.
Crazy Ray, guy was the best.

He’s requested because he’s the Cowboys mascot, and because he’s the mascot the kids like seeing him. They would love a blue blob if it was mascot rep-Ing the Cowboys.

You're right and if you want to hate Rowdy, go ahead, but fortunately for all the youth and any adults that like Rowdy, the Cowboys couldn't care less what you think of Rowdy. For the life of anybody I just don't get why anyone would be so full of hatred for something the Cowboys have approved of as a representative of the Cowboys. Why you hate something that so many like. Yes he's the Cowboys mascot and that's why he gets so many requests, but HE IS THEIR MASCOT. Tell me do you have hatred for all NFL mascots or just Rowdy? I mean the jaguars mascot looks like he belongs on a box of cereal and the cardinals mascot looks more like a chicken. So it all or just Rowdy?

It’s been a long standing joke in Dallas- that pitiful mascot we have was introduced in 1996- the year after our last SB appearance, and we haven’t sniffed one since. I think it’s Jerry actually who’s the curse, but Rowdy the solid #2 choice, LOL!
I remember going to practices at the Alamodome and Rowdy would come out with T-shirt guns and entertain the crowd. Entertain? During practice? I just wanted to watch a practice but Jones had set everything up as if it was an entertainment event.

That's why I think you are right. In fact, Rowdy distracting a crowd in a middle of practices was Jerry's attempt to get more money. Therefore, it really wasn't a "curse" on a supernatural level, it was simply the curse of Jerry being Jerry.

Of course, the next year I watched them during practices at the Alamodome, only the coach was now Bill Parcells. No Rowdy.....no piped in music......no festive atmosphere. The following season the Cowboys didn't renew their contract with the Alamodome.

Come on Jerry will find a place for the ladies to shake it in the stadium still.
The NFL said no cheerleaders on the sidelines. Didn't say no cheerleaders anywhere else.

Well, yeah, but the whole strategy was that you could check out the cheerleaders even in the presence of any female company you happened to be with. All you had to do was pretend to be watching the players on the field. Now, if you deviate your eyes towards cheerleaders somewhere other than the field, you are stone cold busted. Thanks NFL!

The NFL released a statement today to strengthen safety measures on the sidelines and field this year, announcing no mascots or cheerleaders on the sidelines.

No Rowdy! Yes! The curse has been removed! We have a chance to win now, LOL!
thy can be farther up in stands like on the mezzanine or whatever they call it..

It’s common sense that if you want to be serious about winning championships, your football organization must separate the business/marketing side from the football operations side. And the football side must never have to play second fiddle to marketing and “show”. Sadly, our owner sees the two as inseparable.

LOL! I don’t hate anyone, especially a silly mascot. I’m just having some fun here. Do I think we could and should have a better mascot than Rowdy? Yes. Do I care that much? No.

I got to meet Crazy Ray in the Corral (remember that?) at my first ever game at Texas Stadium.

I live in Ohio so it took me some time to get down there but I made several more game trips after that one. Having watched Ray's antics on TV for years it was like meeting a celebrity. The Cowboys beat the Giants on a last second field goal by Chris Boniol (he made 5 that day) and went on to beat Pittsburgh in SB XXX.

I miss Texas Stadium. Jerryworld is an impressive building but Texas Stadium was a better place to watch a game, which is why most people buy a ticket.

That's awesome!! Same here I went to a Dallas/Giants game. Not sure what year. Met Crazy Ray outside. You could tell he loved doing what he did for the fans. One of the highlights of going to Texas Stadium no doubt. Cowboys won on a last second INT when Isaac Holt picked off Jeff Hostetler. Maybe 93??? Around that time. I agree, I loved Texas Stadium. Sure it was old and beat up, but still the Cowboys home. Weird not seeing it anymore.

Then I went back in 2004 and the greatest band was at the corral. What an awesome time. I wish I remembered their name. Too much to drink that day.

If you don't care why would you start a thread like this? Obviously you care more than you say.

He is a curse the same way Shawn Bradley was to the Mavs....Rowdy is flat out Creepy looking,,,,acts obnoxious,,,,not funny....waves off clearly perfect field goals...and has been known to creep out some of the cheerleaders with prolonged stairs (true)….he must have better pics of Jerrah, then The Clapping carrot did.

Rowdy was banned to be on the field at AT & Stadium pregame.unless no one else was out there, riding his 4 wheeler ATV, maybe 3 or 4 years ago, it could be more like 8.
However after he nearly ran over a cheerleader, they told him no more while the cheerleaders are on the field.
