Well, if the Buccaneer did have something in his eye causing him to wink, I have an idea what it could be.

I should stop there. :D

You didn't just go there

Funny thing is that those 10 teams all finished in 2nd place. Because we all know that there is a champion, and a 30 team tie for 2nd.
It doesn't matter if you only have one loss, if it was in the Superbowl, you tied for 2nd.
No participation trophies in pro sports.

I live in egirls territory and vomit everytime my loser son claims how they like being a playoff team every year and how its as good as a champoinship surrounded by losing years. I tell him "that's why you are what I know you are"... an eternal loser.

89' .... my sophmore year in HS. What a nightmare. I think I remember a 3-43 home loss to the vikings as I tried tried to ignore the game and complete homework. How great was it that we beat the skins on their home field though.

Okay, a couple of points.

1. As bad as the Bengals were during the 90's, they never had fewer than three wins per season during that stretch.

2. The Oilers had back-to-back 1-13 seasons in '72 and '73.

Question...

If the Cowboys have two bad teams listed in the top 10 worst teams of all-time nearly thirty years apart, how in the blue hell did Houston only have one team listed? The Oilers won only two games during a two-year stretch. How does that not merit two listings?

Why is it that they conveniently lumped all 90's Bengals together into one listing? During their worst stretch in '93 & '94, they still won six games.

Teams are ultimately judged by how many games they win or lose during a season. I have no problem with Dallas being mentioned twice in the top 10, but for NFL Network to exclude the '72 Oilers, who could easily have been substituted for the "4. All 90's Bengals teams", seems a little to fishy to me.

I mean, a franchise only racking up two wins in 28 games over a two-year period? Come on, people!

That 1989 season was my first season really watching football as a kid. I was 10 years old and finally started to understand the game enough to have interest. At the time, I never put together just how bad the Cowboys were. Thinking back on it, it just seemed like we could compete for about a quarter or two and then our wheels would go shooting off.

Oh and I still remember that Washington win that season. I was so excited I was bouncing off the damn walls. :D

And didn't that win keep the Commanders out of the playoffs?

I echo what a few others have said - that 3-13 1988 team definitely deserves mention. They had two more wins than the '89 team, but they were definitely worse. As bad as things were in '89, there were a few moments where you saw flashes.

as bad as 1989 was at 1-15, Landry's last season in 1988 (the 3-13 team) might have been worse

David

I agree, at least there was optimism in the air during the 89 season.
