Greg Hardy got screwed. DA's don't expunge charges willy-nilly. They will expunge charges when the defendant can come back to trial, win the case and then sue the government. That's what happened with Hardy because:
1. Hardy called 911 on her because she hit him in the face with the heel of a high-heel shoe.
2. His ex-gf could be heard on the 911 call apologizing and saying she didn't want to go to jail.
3. The police report said when they arrived to the condo, Hardy's ex-gf ran away from the police instead of running towards the police.
4. The 911 call made by the ex-gf's friend she told the 911 operator that she was in another room and couldn't actually see what was going on.
5. Hardy's ex-gf admitted to being high on cocaine and drunk.
6. Hardy's ex-gf claimed she was strangled, yet no marks were on her neck.
7. Statements made by the ex-gf in the police report differed from her testimony in the bench trial.
Despite that, Hardy basically sat the entire 2015 season and Goodell pulled the 10-game suspension.
Compare that to Ray Rice, Rafael Septien, Rae Carruth and Aaron Hernandez it pales in comparison. While I don't think Hardy is a 'good guy', he did get screwed over in this situation. And Charlotte Jones being on the ethics committee really has nothing to do with the situation. It's just as laughable as thinking that she 'pulled some strings.'

Sudden shift in topic of conversation but I'll play. Hardy is a POS plain and simple and it's not even worth arguing with anyone who supports him in any way, shape or fashion. Out of curiosity, are you a lawyer because you sure sound like one. You may not "support" him yet you think he got screwed over? He beat a woman, plain and simple, he should have been banned for life. Hardy's gf claimed to be high and drunk but you don't think he was? No marks on her neck, just all over her back. There's no doubt his gf was trash but that doesn't mean he didn't do anything. Just look at his behavior on the field. He slaps a clip board out of a coaches hand! But after drinking and partying all night surely he would never hit a woman, even if she did "attack" him first. If Carolina's laws weren't so back asswards, the guilty verdict would have stuck.
You must have read over the part where I said I agreed with you on the Charlotte Jones theory. I just said I had heard people make that argument although I don't think she could have any influence over the decision. I said it was ironic that she was on the ethics committee and her dad hired one of the biggest scumbags to ever play the game.
Back to the Mara theory. After reading up on it more I do think the NFL was all screwed up but to me a verbal agreement amongst owners should be followed. It just so happens that the two richest/most profitable franchises in the NFL (Commanders and Cowboys) who also have two owners who are both dirtbags and have a bromance with each other stuck their middle finger up at the 30 other owners and went against the agreement. That's slimy as hell.
Not one other team violated the agreement except the two who could benefit from it the most. So John Mara already happened to occupy the chairman position before the agreement was broken yet he is solely responsible for the punishment which was justified in my opinion? Not to mention, I may be wrong here, but I believe the "punishment" was for the amount of money they altered certain players contracts which they shouldn't have done in the first place. So if I understand it correctly, which I may not, that would be like me stealing $100 from the bank and my punishment is to return the $100.
Regardless, one of the main reasons I despise Jerry are due to his questionable and sometimes outright unethical behavior, not only in the football world but his personal life as well. This just confirms my beliefs even more.
And no, I'm not a John Mara fan because I know next to nothing about him but I did read he should have kept his mouth shut after the decision. I guess he said some things that some people thought made him look bad or maybe it was because he was the chairman and the only two owners to break the agreement happened to be in his division.
Maybe I'm old school but a handshake or a verbal agreement or even an understanding should be as good as a written agreement. I've dumped "friends" over things like that. If I can't trust you than I don't want you in any part of my life hence my disdain for JJ.
