Watching the eagles and commanders win this weekend felt like a Cowboys fan nightmare that I would wake from and be relieved it was just a really bad dream. A bad fever dream where you wake up and say, “Oh thank god….it was just a bad dream.”

But unfortunately it is not a dream.

And the pain increases when the new head coaching search headline includes the possibility of hiring Brian Schottenheimer, an offensive coordinator so pedestrian not a single other serious NFL team would even consider hiring him as their OC, much less head coach. Followed by the insane idea of having Jason Witten, a former great player without an ounce of college or NFL coaching experience, be named the “head coach in waiting.” Why any serious HC candidate would ever agree to work under this nonsense is beyond me.

Maybe we as Cowboys fans have just become so used to this level of front office stupidity, you just become numb. Like the numbness I felt earlier this year when I read that Saquon Barkley had a smaller cap hit than Trey Lance. All the while our owner and entitled son-sidekick lie to us that “we can’t afford any FAs”, while the good GMs with similar payroll challenges say “hold my beer” and get it done.

As Saquon Barkley was making his 78 TD run in the snow to clinch the eagles an NFC championship game for the second time in 3 years, all I could feel is the numbness that comes with being a Cowboys fan held hostage by an 82 year old fool who would rather have personal comfort than a legitimate shot at winning a championship.

We are stuck in Purgatory here Bob. Mike might have thrown them a loop, but he’s also given them an opportunity to actually improve. If they don’t take that bone they will set us back another 5 years. Jerry do the right thing and hire a real HC.

We are really screwed as fans.
We really have no hope until Jerry moves on.
The great thing is that this is just sports.
It's just a hobby and one I will continue to spend less time on.

Some must coping hard seeing the eagles go truly all in every year and get success while Dallas trips over it's shoelaces every year.
Even the Rams who went truly all in rebounded quicker than Dallas, and they lost the best defensive player in the league to retirement.

Good post, BH....Jerry Jones has made my life as a Cowboy fan unbearable. Can't wear the colors-can't have fun teasing other NFL friend teams. People laughing at you when you do dare wear the colors. Just thanks, Jerry. Take as bow. You are the WORST GM in history. You're not going to be remembered by your money- your business deals - your Hall of Fame yellow jacket. Or your crypt of a stadium. For Cowboy fans it will be an unfortunate celebration of losing the Worst GM in history. For any sport. IMHOI. All things being considered. Still time to change this narrative, Jerry. Starting this coming season.

oh, I was ecstatic when the cowboys were 3-7. seeing jerry scramble was awsome. I was hoping for more, then came Giants, Panthers and a lucky win against Washington and Jerry got confident. we need 3,4 years of really bad cowboys for anything to change. this 7-10 stuff, just gives more fodder to Jerry to say he is close. he is going to use injury excuses to explain away this season. sign one semi big name middle of the pack FA and call it the day.

I understand exactly how you feel, but I am not convinced about Jerry's motives for doing what he does. Jerry is a fool, I don't think there is any doubt about that, a least when it comes to running the Cowboys. But what makes him a fool. He is not stupid. I think it is ego, and I am pretty sure too much ego would make anyone a fool.

Watching our offseason we had to expect that we would fall behind the rest of the division. I am actually surprised the Giants were as bad as they were but at least Jerry can point to them as an example of a team that is worse.

If you can't get over your ego after 30 years then you are STUPID.

It's not a nightmare to me. I'm glad they won. It puts more pressure on Jerry to do better in 2025.

Bob we live in a time where up is down and black is white. This is not a dream. The "winning is the name of the game" guy, could not care less about anything other than having a wimpy coach to push around.

I wish there were a way to see how many championship games we would have made if jerry had not been in the way.
I'd say two to three more if Jimmy had stayed. Romo may of gotten one. Maybe Dak in his early career. And Tuna may of one with Romo and Glenn. Either way though. I have NO doubt we'd be far better at this point in the last 30 years. Without Jerry Jones as an owner.
Hell is the absence of all hope. That's why the gates of Hell instruct all who enter to abandon all hope.

There is no hope so long as Jerry remains. It is football hell.
Dallas Cowboy fans can tell you all about the coming Purgatory  We've survived 30 years of it....football wise...
