The numbness that befalls us as Cowboys fans

This my take on the current state of the organization. I read an article on Stephen's relationship with Jerry. He said he is so grateful to be working alongside his dad. If you could work alongside your dad who is in the twilight of his life, would you be second guessing his decisions and fight him at every turn on his way of doing things? I'm just saying Stephen' is not the one who is senile and knows his time with his dad is short and he is just going to roll with whatever dad says. Who wouldn't do the same?

Jerry Jones is not senile.

The Dallas Cowboys are not a casual father/son activity. It is a multi-billionaire dollar professional sports enterprise and should be treated as such.

Would I fight my father concerning questionable decision-making impacting the on-the-field goals of said enterprise? Yes.

Would I step down and remove myself from the professional conflict between my father and myself if compromises could not be achieved? Yes. My father is more important to me than being purposefully implicit making bad judgments--simply to appease him in exchange of on-the-field success. Jerry Jones, I am sorry, my father can fail all on his own without any help.

You have identified a central issue though. Jerry and Stephen Jones are executives of a National Football League franchise, who treat it like a lifelong father and son project. The father's age is not the problem. How much time they have together is not either. How they perform as self/father appointed Owner/President/General Manager and Chief Operating Officer/Co-Owner before, now and from now on is the problem.

Watching the eagles and commanders win this weekend felt like a Cowboys fan nightmare that I would wake from and be relieved it was just a really bad dream. A bad fever dream where you wake up and say, “Oh thank god….it was just a bad dream.”

But unfortunately it is not a dream.

And the pain increases when the new head coaching search headline includes the possibility of hiring Brian Schottenheimer, an offensive coordinator so pedestrian not a single other serious NFL team would even consider hiring him as their OC, much less head coach. Followed by the insane idea of having Jason Witten, a former great player without an ounce of college or NFL coaching experience, be named the “head coach in waiting.” Why any serious HC candidate would ever agree to work under this nonsense is beyond me.

Maybe we as Cowboys fans have just become so used to this level of front office stupidity, you just become numb. Like the numbness I felt earlier this year when I read that Saquon Barkley had a smaller cap hit than Trey Lance. All the while our owner and entitled son-sidekick lie to us that “we can’t afford any FAs”, while the good GMs with similar payroll challenges say “hold my beer” and get it done.

As Saquon Barkley was making his 78 TD run in the snow to clinch the eagles an NFC championship game for the second time in 3 years, all I could feel is the numbness that comes with being a Cowboys fan held hostage by an 82 year old fool who would rather have have personal comfort than a legitimate shot at winning a championship.
The most ridiculous and frustrating part of this is that it was 100% preventable.

If this fool merely spent the median amount on free agency this roster would have been competitive .

OR

If this same fool let Dak play without a contract he would had a chance to bring in a new HC who would have decided if the team was staying with Dak or moving in another direction.....it wouldn't have cost the team ONE PENNY more.

Now we have an aging , oft injured, overpaid Qb who will saddle the next HC......no chance for the next HC to go in a different direction....the culture will remain status quo

oh, I was ecstatic when the cowboys were 3-7. seeing jerry scramble was awsome. I was hoping for more, then came Giants, Panthers and a lucky win against Washington and Jerry got confident. we need 3,4 years of really bad cowboys for anything to change. this 7-10 stuff, just gives more fodder to Jerry to say he is close. he is going to use injury excuses to explain away this season. sign one semi big name middle of the pack FA and call it the day.
I very much agree. I freely admit I want to see the 'Boys lose every game. Lose BADLY. And do that for a couple years or more. Other than the entire Jones clan dying in a plane crash, what can we.......
Oh never mind.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Is it any different here in Dallas? One man owns and decides everything for what 30 years or so. We need a strong minded head coach who chooses all his staff himself and written in his contract that he work with McClay and McClay only to draft players and for Jerry to stay out of player decisions. In other words the owner should stay in his lane. Naw, this will sadly never happen.

Ya know Risen, it really IS hard to tell when you're sarcastic.
Or not.
@Risen Star is an acquired taste, like sipping cheap wine at a fancy tasters' gala, lol. He can say whether my opinion is correct or not. Here is an example of him being sarcastic:

Always negative.

I think he is referring those members, who regularly say @Bobhaze's posts and threads are too critical and frequent. I do not believe he thinks the same and being sarcastic in reflection. Here is an example of him not being sarcastic:

Does everybody remember how Romo looked when he came back in the season finale and got one series at the start of the game? He was absolutely clinical. Straight down the field for a touchdown.
It is a reciting of an actual event.

Of course, there is no way of knowing how Daniel Day-Lewis will respond to my insight. He is so mysterious. Most Likes Collectors are.

That last paragraph was sarcastic in nature too. :)

Why would an upcoming coach like Johnson or Aaron Glenn etc choose Cowboys. If one of us were looking for a promotion from a coordinator to coach, what would we be looking for.

1. Elite QB
2. Active Free Agency participation.
3. Top 5 draft pick with good cap space to build.
4. Ability to hire support staff and design plays, bench players etc.
5. The Jason Witten factor.

Unfortunately we have none of the top 4 points and have to groom Jason Witten to take over after you rescue the team from shambles. Most coaches who are interviewing in multiple places wont consider Cowboys as a head coaching opportunity. Kellen Moore also might be better off with Saints or staying with Philly since he is young and he will keep getting interviews.

Or we get a coach like Mcarthy who wants to build a 2nd innings resume and then jump off once the resume is built like he did.

They can be active in free agency. A candidate could hold it over the Cowboys before they accepted the job.
