Watching the eagles and commanders win this weekend felt like a Cowboys fan nightmare that I would wake from and be relieved it was just a really bad dream. A bad fever dream where you wake up and say, “Oh thank god….it was just a bad dream.”

But unfortunately it is not a dream.

And the pain increases when the new head coaching search headline includes the possibility of hiring Brian Schottenheimer, an offensive coordinator so pedestrian not a single other serious NFL team would even consider hiring him as their OC, much less head coach. Followed by the insane idea of having Jason Witten, a former great player without an ounce of college or NFL coaching experience, be named the “head coach in waiting.” Why any serious HC candidate would ever agree to work under this nonsense is beyond me.

Maybe we as Cowboys fans have just become so used to this level of front office stupidity, you just become numb. Like the numbness I felt earlier this year when I read that Saquon Barkley had a smaller cap hit than Trey Lance. All the while our owner and entitled son-sidekick lie to us that “we can’t afford any FAs”, while the good GMs with similar payroll challenges say “hold my beer” and get it done.

As Saquon Barkley was making his 78 TD run in the snow to clinch the eagles an NFC championship game for the second time in 3 years, all I could feel is the numbness that comes with being a Cowboys fan held hostage by an 82 year old fool who would rather have have personal comfort than a legitimate shot at winning a championship.

Come on Bob, 12-5 seasons, playoffs, almost NFL records, almost MVP, highest paid players, hanging around the rim, secret sauce, boss man phat’s, Taco’s, helicopters, clowns in FO positions and yes men HCs. Entertainment 24/7/365 and don’t forget Jerry doesn’t like dead money coaches. It’s called hell not purgatory, just remember that which doesn’t break you just makes you stronger, you should be benching about 650 tonight when you work out

The most ridiculous and frustrating part of this is that it was 100% preventable.

If this fool merely spent the median amount on free agency this roster would have been competitive .

If this same fool let Dak play without a contract he would had a chance to bring in a new HC who would have decided if the team was staying with Dak or moving in another direction.....it wouldn't have cost the team ONE PENNY more.

Now we have an aging , oft injured, overpaid Qb who will saddle the next HC......no chance for the next HC to go in a different direction....the culture will remain status quo

Another great post with true and real perspective. I dropped my DC fan card at the front door in September last year as I can no longer back or cheer the ignorance and self-centeredness of the ownership/family of this once proud franchise, which has been in his captivity over the last 30 years. In fact, I'm enjoying his frustration as the overwhelming evidence keeps piling up of what a true charade or fallacy the Jones football "dynasty" really is.

Winning Super Bowl 30 was one of the worst things that happened to this franchise. And Jerry's mind he could win Super Bowls doing it his way, but everyone with just a small amount of intelligence knew that was our last Super Bowl we were winning the second it was over.

Good post, BH....Jerry Jones has made my life as a Cowboy fan unbearable. Can't wear the colors-can't have fun teasing other NFL friend teams. People laughing at you when you do dare wear the colors. Just thanks, Jerry. Take as bow. You are the WORST GM in history. You're not going to be remembered by your money- your business deals - your Hall of Fame yellow jacket. Or your crypt of a stadium. Very good post, but the truth is that Jerry did have a hand in 3 Championships of his own as he was the owner of record of America's team during the 90s mini dynasty.

However the genius behind that was Jimmy Johnson and the Herschel Walker trade.....Jerry takes FULL credit for those two things.

He got too much too soon and believed it was HIS OWN football acumen responsible for it and hasn't believed anything other than that for a quarter century.

I feel as though something special has been stolen from all Cowboys fans on an annual basis. So much potential, so many opportunities, the possibilities that were squandered.....indeed, it does numb the mind.

Pointing to the fact that the Cowboys are still the "most valuable franchise" does not instill pride, it invokes embarrassment. The value of the franchise depends on the amount of money fans are willing to spend in support of it. It is a combination of ticket sales, TV rights, merchandizing, sponsor patronization, and public relations.

Cowboys' fans have been paying the premium prices for a defective product and false commitments with no recourse during the remaining time of our lives.

Even the Cowboys winning a Super Bowl at this point would only satisfy the Law of Averages, their all too familiar position within the NFL over the past 30 years.
