um he made afew of those business decisions and didnt tackle a player he should have..we all saw it few times, my point is dont exect a CB to do what some LBs and S have already done and thats their main job..
I have seen him definitely pick the wrong gap and over run some. And miss a tackle. But he isn’t afraid to stick his head in. His problem is he got paid. And I will admit I didn’t see him being that type of player. He is more interested about his other business. Maybe he will refocus this year.

Not that any ex-Cowboy player can only find redemption in my forgiveness, but there are those guys that really could have changed history by one routine play. There are those that were just in the wrong place at the wrong time with enough frequency that they destroyed a season.

The infamous include guys like Jackie Smith.....Phil Pozderic.....Craig Morton.....Joseph Randle......Chaz Green.....Dwayne Goodrich.......Babe Laufenberg.......

Which player is responsible for the gut wrenching loss or wasted season you can never forget? Here are my top 3.

Super Bowl 5 - Craig Morton, pathetic. 12-26-127-1TD-3INT....The 127 yards passing was actually his best performance of the three playoff games that postseason. He could throw long but he had zero touch and absolute zero escapability

Super Bowl 13 - Jackie Smith, no explanation needed.

1990 season - Babe Laufenberg. The Cowboys had their own destiny in their hands when they peaked late in the 1990 season, Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones's second.

They were on a four game winning streak when they faced the Eagles in game #15. They hit Aikman hard early in the first quarter and he was out. Enter Laufenberg who produced an 8.8 passer rating with a 36% completion rate. The defense held the Eagles to 10 offensive points when Laufenberg saved the worse for last with a pick six.

But this isn't the game that earned him notoriety. The Cowboys still would have clinched a playoff spot with a victory in game #16 against the 4-11 Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons defensive gameplan was simple, load the box against rookie RB Emmitt Smith. Laufenberg took advantage of the Falcons keying on Smith by delivering a 38.4 passer rating including 2 INT's the last one shockingly in the area of Deion Sanders. He returned it 61 yards for a TD. The Cowboys defense held the Falcons to 17 points but the Falcons shut out the Cowboys until the final minutes of the game.
Tony Romo for all of the big games he cost us.
2006 against Seattle
2007 against the Giants
2008- Losing to Steelers & Ravens.. another season lost
2009- Romo and the whole team deciding not to show up in the Divisional round
2010-
2011- The usual December swoon, lost 3 of 4 division games at the end of the year
2012- Getting RG3'd, not taking his helmet off after getting smacked by the Skins
2013- Usual December slump, 7-5 going in, 8-8 coming out
2014- Murray led offense, 12-4. Romo basically gets the ball taken out of his hand. We cant beat GB because JG doesnt trust Romo, and team goes conservative when they had a chance to win
2015- Injury in game 2
2016- Dak comes in along with Zeke. Everyone remembers the one drive Romo had..

I know I will face a lot of crap for this post, but guys I am not a Dak lover. Do not pay a good player franchise altering great money. you will always come out disappointed and set the team back.
Romo was very good but could not win the big game when it mattered, that is undeniable. Yes he also won a lot of important games, but he could never deliver and I know its not all on Romo. He also had many seasons to deliver, it wasnt that he only got a couple of chances. The team was talented enough to get to a couple of championship games at least. There is only one SB winner so I am not saying... how many rings does he have... How many opportunities did we squander?

Read the posts and thought about it and can't pick one. Everyone is fallible, crap happens and just need to move on.

Patrick Crayton stuttering on his route against the Giants in 07. Would've been Romo's greatest win.

DeMarco Murray fumbling against Green Bay in 2014. Made every play that season except for that sure TD run in the Divisional Round. No way in hell that Safety tackles him in the open field.

I'm still bitter about both of those plays.

Didn't Crayton miss an easy catch earlier in the game too? He made another critical error earlier in that game.
He wasn't ready to be a champion.
Dallas led 17-14 with a minute left in the 3rd. Then this happened.

  • Perfect easy pass over the middle to streaking, wide-open Crayton...who may still be running....... dropped....a possible game-sealing pass or close to it.
  • Dallas punted and gave up a big return to RW McQuarters.
  • NY's Brandon Jacobs scored and took the lead
  • Then Dallas drove down to 23 yard line with time running out...no time-outs. Perfect game-winning pass to the endzone, but Crayton broke his route and ball lands harmlessly in the endzone
The eventual SB champs season should've ended that day. Dallas would've gotten a vulnerable Packers team the next week in Dallas. No telling who would win as Dallas was very beaten up and fading late in that season. But we'll never know.

Having babbled about Crayton, his screwups that day were not the worst ever.

If it's one play, the honor goes to Jackie Smith
I forgive him though :)

Septien (spelling?) Because of being a pedo.

Jackie Smith for breaking the heart of a 12 year old boy. To this day I want to throw my remote at the TV if I see Bradshaw. He's the biggest joke in the HOF. Surrounded by HOF's on both sides of the ball and he was the weak link. Understand it's a much different game now but he would be lucky to find a back up job. Eli will follow the same path to the Hall.

Leon Lett, he had generational talent in my opinion but only gave effort sometimes. I really do feel he could have been one of the greatests ever. I hate to see anyone not live up to their potential and imo his talent was through the roof.

Awesome topic! It's a nice break from the usual on here. Thanks for thinking of it, well done!

I have NEVER forgiven T.O. for this. He is my most hated ex Cowboy. I despised every day he wore the uniform. George Teague only played 1 season for us, but his reaction to this desecration has placed him as one of my favorite ex Cowboys players.

Love Teague till this day because he was the only one who showed they cared.

I will never forgive Gary Hogeboom for whatever voodoo hypnosis he did on Coach Landry to make Landry think he was in any way a viable NFL starter. Every time I saw #14 on the field in '84 or '85, I wanted to vomit. I was only in middle school, and I knew that dude was hot garbage.
If my old mind still works correctly, didn't he punch Staubach as well?

It's your opinion and I respect that.

Romo, Woody, and Randy White are my all time favs. But I understand this is an opinion thread, like most are. You're certainly entitled to yours without others getting ticked. Never understood the whole getting mad over someone else's opinion. Makes no sense to me.

I read an article that Septien may have gotten railroaded and that he wasn't really a pedo. This was pre-Internet and I've never found it online. It would be interesting if that were true. He was one of the Cowboys' best kickers ever. I've always wondered if the pedo thing was true or if he got framed.

Edit: I found it! It is online. It's an article from 1987. Here it is:

Wow, thank you for sharing that. I am going to add you post # to my post. I just always assumed it was true. Thanks again.

Apparently it's too late to edit my post, but thanks for the article!
