The Cowboys are on the precipice of doing what no team has done in the cap era, having 4 players in the top 5 in salary and 3 of them offensive skill positions, the highest paid triplets in NFL history are on the horizon and what makes that even worse is that the owner will be proud of that. Loves those stars in his eyes.

What happened in 2015 when the QB went down? 4-12 What happened when the RB was out? 9-7 What happened when they didn't have a WR1? 3-5.

This coaching staff and team have proven they struggle to overcome just one key player and this team is getting ready to be the poster child for the Too Much to Too Few team.

If you've played Fantasy Football, you know the value of the injury report. And any FF player will tell you the two positions that are on there the most are the RB's and WR's. And using Elliott's lack of injury history as the case to extend is foolhardy.

I do not see any way around not extending the QB because of the lack of options and the same can be said for the WR position, we've seen the team without one. But sign all 3 and this team, with this coaching staff not good at overcoming injuries, and the Cowboys are playing Injury Roulette. They're already spinning that wheel with the DE.

That "coaching staff" will only be an issue for one more year. And these contracts that you're referring to may all not even be decided upon when the new regime comes in.

Possible but not probable.

In the last year of the contract? No, that's probable. As probable as it gets. If Jones wanted an excuse to keep him around, the playoff appearance and win was it. He actively chose not to. Now, nothing short of a Championship Game appearance will sell. Jones intentionally put himself, his head coach, and his team in this position. Even his patience has run out.

Speaking of the player contracts, unless the Joneses are just whistling out their butts.

However, this thinking this is Garrett's last season is born in this forum. We are the ones that have set the standard of continued employment for Garrett and have no idea what they're really thinking behind closed doors. Anyone taking any off the cuff remarks by Booger or Son needs to look back on their history.

Unfortunately the same can’t be said of the GM!

Yes, but that is a different conversation. But outside of being overly loyal to this head coach, I think the GM has done an excellent job in stocking this team with quality players. Coaching is what I see holding this team back from excellence.

It's "born" from the fact that the owner willingly chose not to extend his head coach's contract. That happened outside of this forum.

And who will choose the next (and 6th) HC since we last competed in a Championship game let alone an SB?

That same guy, but thankfully, that next coach won't be "extended family" and will actually be held accountable.

I don't think it's championship game or bust for Garrett, because there are almost always excuses that can be made (key player lost, bad officiating, etc.). However, for the most part, I agree with you.

If Jones wasn't willing to extend him after a playoff season, then it's going to take more than that for Garrett to get that extension. The thing is with the right talent, especially on the defensive side of the ball, I believe Garrett is good enough to get us to an NFC Championship Game (without much tweaking of his offensive system). Without being more innovative on offense, I don't think he can take us further than that without having an absolutely dominant defense to make up for the inadequacies of the system.

Perhaps the thing I'm most interested in seeing this year is how much Garrett allows Moore to alter his system (and how much Moore is able to do that). I stand by the belief I stated a few years back that Garrett is good at the organizational and motivational aspects of being a head coach.

It happened last time his contract was up also.

We have fans which are basically using the fact Jerry didn’t sign him as some sign of dissatisfaction from our organization using to spin their narrative.

I rarely see this rhetoric on Garrett outside this forum which isn’t always a good measurement on the pulse of Cowboys Nation.

Of course not. It’s a narrative spin from the actions of not resigning Garrett yet. These fans are simply using some of the events as messages Garrett isn’t coming back. It’s all fabricated ..

If that game against the Rams was any closer, I think Garrett would have got an extension. But since it ended the way it did. It opened Jerry's eyes a bit more and kept them open this time.

It kept them open, that this team may have won from a better prepared team. Rather it was on the OC or the DC or both, or players just not playing well. Or any combination thereof. And that is not taking away a great game plan by the Rams. It revolves around this team.

But it ultimately falls on the HC's head to have the team, players and coaches prepared.
