see ya...and good insight on the 4th down call...even if they didn't get the call.

Told ya. There is some great insight here.

And then the polar opposite in extreme as well which isn't evident at all.

Wow. Insightful for a 16 year old fourth grade child.

Again, what part of the image shows that Hurd hasn't beaten his man in the coverage?

Bailey was beaten plain and simple but had to grab Hurd to make any play on the ball. Lucky, lucky, lucky.

williams, barber and bennett were on the sideline.

Jason witten was helping block on next to flozell adams.

Hurd, crayton and austin are all we have after that.

Bennett should have been on the field -- at least as the blocker in Witten's place so Witten could go out for a pass. Or put Phillips in as the blocker and let Bennett go out for a pass, too.

With Williams injured, our three potential receivers on that play should have been Witten (our best pass-catcher), Crayton (the best hands among our receivers, and the best at getting open in traffic) and Bennett (our biggest physical mismatch and potentially a red-zone threat).

Oh, and Romo should have tried to keep the last play alive until someone came open, rather than try to thread the needle on a slant that wasn't open.

3rd and Goal from the 2 -- and your best play is Sam Hurd vs. Champ Bailey one-on-one?

Sam Hurd??

SAM HURD?!?!

TWICE IN A ROW??

REALLY?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!??!

This one is honestly mind boggling guys. The best play boy genius could dial up was putting Samuel fricking Hurd 1-on-1 with Champ Bailey and hoping to catch him on a little slant. I was so disgusted after seeing that.

Fine, Roy Williams was out of the game - WHERE was Miles Austin? WHERE was Patrick Crayton? WHERE was Martellus Bennett? WHERE was Jason Witten? WHERE was Marion Barber?

No excuse for such horrid playcalling. Going to that well twice in a row is either extreme arrogance or extreme idiocy - either way it cost us.

It's like a scary repeat of last week goal line fail. Two fade pases! This time two passes to scrub hurd defended by one of the best cb's in the league! Someone saves us from RED!!!!

Any defensive back SHOULD do that, in that situation.

We were on the 2-yard line with 5 seconds left. If you interfere and get away with it, the game is over. And if the ref calls the penalty, you're basically in the exact same situation you were just in -- the offense has one play from the 1. What's the downside for interfering?

Didn't even think of that. I think Red Ball has some serious arrogance problems. He seems to think his shiz don't stink. That's the only thing I can point to that makes sense when considering how he likes to force plays like that, two weeks in a row now.

Hurd beat Bailey. He had inside leverage. The only way Champ could win was to interfere with the catch by wrapping around Hurd's waist and pulling himself against Sam to get any kind of play on the ball which looks a lot like this:

I'm no Garrett fan, and I do think we could have gotten more creative than running almost the same exact play twice in a row to end the game, but I'm hesitant to hang this on him for a reason other than just the picture you post.

The play did, after all, produce a wide-open Miles Austin not once, but twice. Just like last week when, yes, the second fade to Bennett was questionable, but the first one should have been a TD hauled in by Roy.

I hate assessing playcalling because it's all based in hindsight on our end. If Romo isn't all over the place with his throws today, or if we have a healthy stable of running backs, or if Roy is able to play in the waning minutes, are we mad at Garrett? I'd like to think there was a better play call in the bag, but the one called probably should have gotten the job done.

Again, I'm no excuse maker for Garrett. I think he got too much credit for 2007, and because of that gets too much blame now for all those who are sick and tired of hearing about his genius.

it's been slowing building up since the playoff game in 2007. now it's starting to reach it's peak. if by some chance we lose to KC this place will explode. my guess is we beat kc but lose to Atlanta and than it hits the fan.

My frustration simply lies in the fact that we have had the same problems for so, so long. It's hard to *believe* they will get fixed now, although I certainly hope they do.

Digest of Rules Main
Pass Interference

  1. There shall be no interference with a forward pass thrown from behind the line. The restriction for the passing team starts with the snap. The restriction on the defensive team starts when the ball leaves the passer’s hand. Both restrictions end when the ball is touched by anyone.
  2. The penalty for defensive pass interference is an automatic first down at the spot of the foul. If interference is in the end zone, it is first down for the offense on the defense’s 1-yard line. If previous spot was inside the defense’s 1-yard line, penalty is half the distance to the goal line.
  3. The penalty for offensive pass interference is 10 yards from the previous spot.
  4. It is pass interference by either team when any player movement beyond the line of scrimmage significantly hinders the progress of an eligible player of such player’s opportunity to catch the ball. Offensive pass interference rules apply from the time the ball is snapped until the ball is touched. Defensive pass interference rules apply from the time the ball is thrown until the ball is touched.

Actions that constitute defensive pass interference include but are not limited to:

    (a) Contact by a defender who is not playing the ball and such contact restricts the receiver’s opportunity to make the catch.
Bailey didn't restrict Hurds ability to make the catch. In fact it was a completely catchable ball.
    (b) Playing through the back of a receiver in an attempt to make a play on the ball.
Bailey never played through the back of him. He followed him as he ran his route.
    (c) Grabbing a receiver’s arm(s) in such a manner that restricts his opportunity to catch a pass.
Never grabbed any arms either, no foul there.
    (d) Extending an arm across the body of a receiver thus restricting his ability to catch a pass, regardless of whether the defender is playing the ball.
His arm WAS on Hurd, but it did not restrict Hurds ability to catch the pass.
    (e) Cutting off the path of a receiver by making contact with him without playing the ball.
    Never happened.
    (f) Hooking a receiver in an attempt to get to the ball in such a manner that it causes the receiver’s body to turn prior to the ball arriving.
This would be the most likely candidate to raise. But, his body was never turned and he didn't impede his route.
Actions that do not constitute pass interference include but are not limited to:

    (a) Incidental contact by a defender’s hands, arms, or body when both players are competing for the ball, or neither player is looking for the ball. If there is any question whether contact is incidental, the ruling shall be no interference.

    (b) Inadvertent tangling of feet when both players are playing the ball or neither player is playing the ball.

    (c) Contact that would normally be considered pass interference, but the pass is clearly uncatchable by the involved players.

    (d) Laying a hand on a receiver that does not restrict the receiver in an attempt to make a play on the ball.

    (e) Contact by a defender who has gained position on a receiver in an attempt to catch the ball.

The interference didn't or wouldn't have mattered. The point was, Why go at Bailey? Trying to be cocky? If you're going to go at Bailey, at least do it with a stud receiver, why take that chance?

D. The arm is obviously wrapped AROUND Hurd's waist.

Can you see Champ's hand in the photo?

No?

He's got his arm wrapped around Hurd, holding him by the chest. Textbook holding of a receiver. We got called for it last week against Carolina. On the video replay it certainly appears that Bailey uses his right arm as leverage to pull forward against Hurd.

Very easy call, and had it happened to another team I would say they got robbed as well.
