The only hype I will buy

If we’ve learned anything in the last three decades about the Jones family running the Dallas Cowboys it is this: The hype machine never stops grinding and the sales booth is always open. Despite three decades of under-performing when it matters most on the field, the shameless marketing of “America’s Team” never takes a break.

Here we are in June, a month away from training camp and we are already being PR-pummeled with the sales pitch that a first time head coach the Jones boys call “Schotty” is “turning this thing around” with his backward visor while forging “bromances” with every single player. I want Schotty to win but please…

Let me make it clear: I will be thrilled if this team is really good this year. My problem is acting like they’ve already done something before they’ve even put on the pads. The only hype I will buy from this organization will be on the scoreboard in games that matter.

For those of you buying in right now I completely support your enthusiasm and your right to express it on this forum. If you are excited by what you see and hear now, I support your enthusiasm.

Conversely, I hope that my reluctance to buy before I’ve seen results will also be seen as my right. “I will believe it when it happens” has not only been my mantra for years, it is my way of saying I love the Cowboys without buying what our shameless owner and his entitled son are selling.

The only hype these days I’m buying will be results…on the field…in games that matter.

But but but

New coaches, New culture, New podcasts

Come on.

..well, it could be worse and be the Browns, Chargers, Bears, or Lions. .. ;)..

Hey, at least we have a trophy case. Needs some dusting, but its there. lol..

I'm gonna put this in a base relationship form.

The Cowboys are like an old girlfriend to me. When we were young she was hot, smokin hot! We sometimes had fights and she hurt me but most of the time we made love and were in love. It was a hot time! (60's - mid 80's).

Then she got kinda fat and hatefully self-conscious and we drifted apart (mid to late 80's). I still thought of her and missed her and would see her from time to time but there was no spark and then suddenly we ran into each other at the gym ... both of us in good shape and looking good (OK ... I had a bit of a beer gut). We went out and things were just torrid.

It was so hot for a while that we couldn't get enough of each other (early 90's). Then she got on heroin (Jerry fired Jimmy). She was still hot but you could see that train was runnin off the tracks . . . and it did. She crashed and burned and just pizzed me off (2000-2006)!

We still see each other, occasionally go out and have a good time (2007, 20014, 2016, 2021-2023) but the flame is barely a spark. I know she can still be fine, I still have a place in my heart for her, but her old junkie (Jerrah) still comes around trying to screw her up. She just can't seem to get off his chit!

I still have my hope, I'll never love another, but sometimes sadness overcomes me! She must prove herself !

And that damn pusher man and his junkie son need to git out of the picture!
Good analogy!

Yes, we all know that. But there is nothing wrong with acknowledging the changes for the better so far.
Instead of seeing the same old blah, blah, blah posts.
Yes, but the blah blah blah also includes the people who are gushing over 7th rounders and UFA's.

Good post and I agree. The Rah Rah stuff is nauseating. Win something.
A wild card win every decade isn’t enough?

They’ve won exactly ONE playoff game vs a team that didn’t have a losing record since Prescott has been here, and if the team they beat didn’t lose their kicker in the first half, that may not even be the case.

I dunno, maybe STOP talking about winning Super Bowls when that’s the case!

Ok. But the same old “blah, blah, blah” is always in the eye of the beholder.

To some fans that “blah, blah, blah” is people getting mad because some Cowboys fans aren’t excited enough or only want to talk about why they are frustrated with the lack of success and the Jones boys doing their Wash, rinse, repeat routine.

To other fans, that “blah, blah, blah” is listening to some fans gush every year about this time of year about how great this team is going to be before pads have even been worn and that every draft pick is a beast and future all pro.

Why can’t both be ok? I can’t be gushy about any team that has neither finished its roster nor played a down of meaningful football yet. And has a history of underachieving with the same leadership at the top who never seems to learn.

I completely understand you and other fans are excited about the changes - the new coaching staff, the draft picks, the Pickens, trade…I get it. AND I fully support any fan here who wants to express that same excitement.

My bottom line is either should be ok on this forum. Right?

I don't buy any hype...don't need to. Just gonna support my team and cheer when we win, get pissed when we lose and then get over it and do it all over again the next week. Go Cowboys!!

I think all 32 teams are hyping their teams at this time of year. It’s a business and the more interest a team can generate the more money they make.
And damn it, I just don't know better even in a dictatorship.

That what Jerry represents? :muttley: :flagwave:

Can results actually be considered hype? The definition of hype is "extravagant or intensive publicity or promotion."

I do not see it as fans buying into any hype. More like they are liking the changes that have taken place.
Some will take is as a positive sign, and say so. Others will keep to their everything sucks attitude and say so.

Fans know we need to see it on the field. That is a given. Yes there are some extremes on both pros and cons to it. But most know, show us, not just say it.

But if one acts a bit positive, does not mean they are buying the hype.
I stated many times, I do not expect miracles. And have us on the verge of a playoff spot. But that does not curb my enthusiasm going into the season at this point.
I'm just guarded against disappointment. I want the best. I hope for the best. I don't expect the best. That part has to be proven to me at this point in my fanship.

That doesn't mean I don't like some of the things the team has done and is doing. I just don't get very worked up about them because we've done some good things in past seasons and the end result has been the same.
