Move Kosier to RG and play Arkin at LG, between two great offensive linemen in Free and Gurode.

Kosier has played every position on the OL before except LT. Kosier could still help Gurode with the line calls and could also help Tyron Smith with his mental development.

If they have to start him, that would be better than having Arkin and Smith on the same side.

No doubt. It would help to hide the deficiencies of Arkin, putting him between a top 10 LT and a Pro Bowl center. Tyron Smith would have the smartest OL on the team next to him, and Houck said himself that once Smith gets the mental game down, he'll be unstoppable.

Makes sense to me . . . .

And didn't Arkin play on the left side in college anyway? I don't remember.

He was usually a right guard for two years and then was moved to left tackle.

Yeah thats what I was thinking the other day. Although, don't know if Arkin can handle a switch so early in his development.

Thanks. I remember reading he had experience on the left side as well . . . .

Change isn't necessarily a good thing. I believe I'd prefer to let the coaches decide what to do with the OL. They've been at it long enough and know their guys well enough by now to make the right decisions as to what works and what doesn't. That's what they're getting paid the big bucks for, after all. I think the problems of the past are more about personnel than coaching.

Sounds good, but I think our guards will have a tough time anchoring against big tackles and getting a push in short yardage. It's certainly a much more athletic OL - which I like. Only Gurode is a plodder and I'm ok with that since he has to be able to hold his ground against big NTs. Hopefully we will be very good at screens and outside running plays. We certainly have the backs for that in Felix and Murray. I pray that Arkin and Smith are quick learners.

Not that it matters now, but does anyone know how that Rackley guy is doing? He is the OG many of us wanted in the 3rd round. I like Arkin, but I'd hate to hear that Rackley is lighting it up. I know it doesn't matter now, but I was just curious.

So many people want a athletic line; which is fine except at Center where you need a bull. With NTs like Nagota and others around, a smalish center will get owned.

That's why I'm glad we have Gurode. He's not perfect by any means, but he seems to do very well against those anchoring nose tackles like Suh and Haynesworth.

Any chance of it happening, Hos?
I don't know. I kind of doubt it, but I think it absolutely makes sense for the very reason you said. Kosier in Tyron's ear is nothing but a positive thing IMO.

Of course they could do it two ways and move Smith the LT and Free to RT. But I don't see that happening.

The reports about Arkin are encouraging as heck though.

Arkin was known to be a very quick learner and extremely smart by his college coaches. It wouldn't surprise me at all for him to learn enough of the assignments to actually be able to assist Smith in his role.

Moving Kosier over is a possibility though.

I'd rather see Arkin than Holland. Just let the rookies learn and grow. They are good ones.
