Anyone hear any update on Terrell McClain? Man I'd love to see him unseat Hayden, but he's sure running out of time.

And that brings up a very interesting scenario with him.

High ankle sprains can linger.

If he is not ready in three weeks, it comes down to either keeping him on the active roster, placing on IR, or just cutting.

We will already have to carry DeMarcus Lawrence.

That's exactly why I'm worried. He could end up being out as long as Lawrence with our luck.

Terrell McClain's health does not concern me more than any other. I was not counting on him to do much in the first place.

I know the thing around here was that he was automatically the NT over Hayden, why I have no idea.

Thanks for the info. So it's been about 2 weeks by now. By Week 1 it'll have been 6 weeks. Can't see how he'd miss a game, but may be inactive the first week or 2 to work himself into game shape.

I've heard the Cowboys are aiming to have him play in the last two preseason games.

He could easily aggravate it, as well. No need to rush him. Hayden is used to being worked like a dog.

Here's a quote from Jason Garrett from an article published yesterday. Looks like we're targeting week/10 days.

“We’re hopeful that he’ll be back in a week or so, so he can practice and play in one or two of these preseason games because he was off to such a great start in training camp and really showed up all throughout spring and continued that into the first part of camp,” Garrett said. “So we need to get him back. He can be an explosive player inside for us.”

It's hard to tell if our couch-scouts were right or not after so little time in camp, but it does sound like the team likes his potential.

EDIT: And another quote from the HC, this one going back to OTAs:

"He’s one of those guys who doesn’t say anything to anybody," Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said of McClain this week, according to ESPN.com's Todd Archer. "He’s just quiet and goes to work every day, but he’s absolutely one of the guys who is showing up the most in these (OTA) practices. He has great intensity in all that he does. He flashes some ability. We really like how he goes about his business."

You'd think a guy on the bubble of being cut would fight through and get out there ASAP. I guess we shall see

High ankle sprain 4-6 weeks. Its been two weeks. We desperately need him. Hayden is competing with Proctor, Ball, and Davis for worst Cowboys starter in the past decade. i don't want to suck.

Tough to fight through a HAS. You pretty much need to let them heal.

I'm not sure he's on the bubble, anyway. I bet he's back for the last two preseason games, and I think the team's counting on him to play this season in a fairly conspicuous role.

Any news on Josh Brent? His availability would give this team, and specifically the 1-tech position so much needed "wiggle room" to put it in "Jerryspeak".

How do you figure? The guy hasn't played football in a year and a half. I wouldn't expect him to contribute until late November/Early December.

The bigger issue is his ability to play at all, given his mental state and the commissioner's pending ruling.

A one-tech, playing limited snaps, is going to be able to give you reps even after a year and change off. He'll have his share of emotional baggage to overcome, but he's not also overcoming a serious injury, which is what you normally see with this much time off. He's just got to get in legitimate playing shape in terms of his stamina (assuming he was able to keep his strength up during his time served, which is not really a huge assumption). He's been training for the last month already, and will have been doing so for a couple of months before we'd be counting on him for any snaps. I don't think the time off is going to be the significant issue here with Brent.
