The Parcells--Weis Connection Continues To Emerge...

...I've been saying for a long time that the most natural successor to Parcells when he steps down would be Charlie Weis, if, and that's a big IF, he would be interested after 3 or so seasons at ND.

Well, the connection between the two keeps popping up. Today JFE mentioned in her radio show that Parcells threw her a nugget of info yesterday and said to her, "Guess who called me Friday night?" She said, "Who?" And Parcells responded, "Charlie Weis." Seems as if Charlie was picking Tuna's brain as to how he would approach his team in the pre-game talk and prep Saturday before the big game with SC.

Then tonight on Stephen Smith's show on ESPN, Weis was talking about the game and Smith asked Weis if, even though he lost, since he was now a head coach, if the game against SC was the greatest game he had been involved in as a coach. Weis dismissed that and said No, he would pick any of the 4 Super Bowls he was a part of winning over a game he lost. He then added this comment..."As Parcells says, 'they don't give out medals for trying.'"

I'm telling you guys and gals, keep an eye on Weis. I know right now it looks like he is completely at home at ND, but if and I believe, WHEN, he wins big at ND, I believe he is the type of coach who will want to move back up to the NFL level and be a head coach at the highest level of competition and compete for Super Bowl titles and Lombardi trophies.
I also believe that if Parcells hangs around another couple of years after this year and with his connection to Weis, Weis could be the guy Parcells eventually recommends to Jerry.

As I've said before...with "Tuna, Jr." it would be an absolutely seamless transition.

Carroll might be the better NFL coach. Just like Bellicheck - wiser and better equipped to come back and suceed second time round.

Weiss has a mega 5 year deal - not happening.

So did Belichick in Cleveland.

However, having said that, I still don't think Carroll will ever be much of a NFL coach.

I believe Carroll has a NFL CAREER WINNING RECORD AND MADE PLAYOFFS!

Bellicheck failed with Browns first try at NFL coaching - my point - eh?

Carroll - NFL record 27-21

Not a great run but far from totally sucked.

I have zero interest in Carrol. That guy is not cut out for the NFL... too "happy happy joy joy," "let's be friends and sing Kumbaya." :puke:

Weis, on the other hand, seems to be a hardass in the Parcells mold. I'd love him... I'm just not convinced he'd want to leave the cushy confines of South Bend.

Probabably Sean Payton. Our owner's a loyal guy. I also think if jimmy ever decided he wanted back in coaching.......

I don't want Carroll personally but the guy can coach.

He'd work in the right system, town. Vermeil, Mariucci, Gruden like. Works for them.

Actually 33-31. He also had a 6-10 season with the Jets.

There are other teams besides the pats. :D

Buddy Ryan had a winning record with the Eagles and took them to the playoffs... and failed with the Cardinals. So what is this point you are trying to make?

Leinart and I believe more importantly, Reggie Bush would make most any college coach look like a genius.

Carroll was a respected NFL coordinater but never considered the defensive guru Belichik was in his career as an assistant.

Carroll's problem as a HC in the pros was he was too much of a player's coach, not enough discipline. I personally wouldn't want him.

My Carroll Analogy was to Bellicheck - coaches with not a lot of INITIAL NFL coaching succes but had/could succeed in 2nd go round.

You made a new analogy - you go boy on that!

the 46 defense was a dino by then! lol
You still have yet to prove your point. Just because a guy was miserable with one team does not mean he is doomed to be miserable with his next team... a la Belichik, or Shanahan. Nor does it mean he is destined for success with his next team, a la Wade Phillips.

Just because a guy was successful with one team does not mean he is doomed to failure with his next team, a la Reeves. Nor does it mean he is destined for success, a la Vermiel or Flores.

Give it up Nors.. before you embarass yourself... AGAIN

You can't say "not happening" and base it on facts. A 5 year deal means nothing when you would be talking about a move back up to the NFL. It is not uncommon at all for a college coach to have that kind of "escape" or "out" language in the details of the contract.

Out clauses are quite common in the college ranks. But do you think Notre Dame would give any coach an out clause? I don't.

Any coach worth his own salt, (or his agent) wouldn't sign a contract without it.
