The Pedigree of Jason Garrett

OK, so please forgive my ignorance on this post... but, isn't Jason Garrett the man with the most "Dallas" history and pedigree of any Dallas Cowboy head coach in our history?

His father scouted for the Cowboys for what, two decades? He played for Dallas for what, 12 years? He cut his teeth as a coordinator here. He knows Dallas. He turned down other offers for Dallas. He lives Dallas. He breathes Dallas. He bleeds Dallas.

I am born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Raised on the Cowboys. I'm not particularly religous on Sundays - though I do consider my Cowboys sacred. Who else would you want to take us to the promised land but a born-n-bred, raised, pedigreed and proven leader with a history so rich in Cowboys lore? That man is Jason Garrett. Remember the man who beat Green Bay on Thanksgiving so many years ago? THAT MAN IS NOW OUR HEAD COACH!!

Finally - a leader we as fans can rally around. A leader who truly bled blue and silver like no other in history!

He will make mistakes. He will learn along the way.

But... my friends... his pedigree is a foundation upon which we can all rally around. Finally... a real Dallas Cowboys coach for our Dallas Cowboys.

I am thinking the same thing. This is not some retread or someone bringing in a scheme that halfway worked somewhere else, this guy is a Cowboy.

Hes got the name, but I dont know how good his father was, no personal knowledge of him at all really. I know he knows his football, but Wade and Bill knew football too, just not todays version. What version jason knows will be seen, who knows, maybe he will start a new trend and version. Lord knows we have the players to be able to play any type of game any where against anyone. Why they cant play with teams today baffles me, Jason knows more then I do about this. We will see over the next 2 months what he knows and how he is at disseminating that info to the coaches and players. We can only hope for the best (or root for failure as some on here are doing???) and play the games on our schedule. They are tough enough to provide a glimpse of the teams future and Garretts immediate future.

I still don't get why "pedigree", specifically a Cowboy one, is important here.

Garrett says all the right things and definetely looks the part but he contributed to this mess just as much as anyone.

I'll just say I have not been this excited about a Head Coach since Jimmy was hired and I promise you, I was excited about Parcells. He was hired on my wife's birthday and I literally told her I got the better present.

I really am NOT feeling his pedigree. I actually WANTED someone who Jerry was not comfortable with. I actually wanted someone that had ZERO pet cats/projects in the lockeroom..someone with ZERO allegiance to any of the players. Someone who will judge each player based on what they see TODAY...not what they saw when drafting them . The status quo has STUNK. EVERYONE including Jerry needs to feel uncomfortable, and hiring someone already here is TOO comfy for the situation we are in. Lets not act like Jason did not tell Jerry Brad Johnson can win games for us. Let's not act like Jason Garrett did not get rid of Anthony Fasano and turn around and draft ANOTHER TE with a 2nd round pick whose production does not match his draft status. Lets not act like Jason did not argue for Felix Jones (who I like) when Wade wanted Chris Johnson. Lets not act like Jason didn't ask for Hudson Houck. Let's not act like Jason appears to be trying to re-establish the 90s Cowboys. I am not saying every head coach would be or has to be perfect, but Jason showed ZERO leadership with the whole Witten, TO, Romo fiasco a couple of years ago. Jason has stubbornly forced Marion Barber down our throat. Jason had to be FORCED to play Felix (which is something Jerry should not have to or be able to do). I do NOT want this guy. Sorry!

Yep.

Garrett is one of my favorite Cowboys ever. Top 10.

I used to have full confidence in him when he had to step in for Aikman.


Im not the same way now. Maybe hes a better head coach than he is a playcaller?

He does deserve some heat as an offensive coordinator but at the same time the players probably deserve more heat than he ever did at any point.

Its hard to run the ball like so many people shout for when you are constantly getting penalties and behind in games.



Lets just wait and see CL. It's the best thing for the Cowboys.

If he can't spark this team into just playing hard then show Jason the door too.


The best thing I have heard about Garrett is there are players in the locker room that don't like him. I love that.

1 thing is for sure though... We need a guy like Norv Turner around next season.

I think the blame has to go to these players at this point and I've been a Garrett critic myself, but he's in a new position in a bad situation and I'm pulling for him until I'm confident that he can't do it.

In this context, about as irrelevant as it gets.

This is the central reason why some people are excited about Garrett. I'm much more interested in championships than nostalgia. Some people must think he's been mopping floors and selling concessions instead of coaching the offense.

I could care less where our new coach came from. Tell me it's Harbaugh, Gruden, Cowher, Saban, etc, I'll get excited.

Tell me it's a guy who's a central figure in the slop of the 2010 season, I'm anything but.

1 thing that has messed up our Oline though is we don't use the snap count to our advantage.


Romo scans the field, acts like he is going to snap it, walks forward, audibles if need be, and then snaps almost every single time.

As an offensive lineman one of your biggest advantages is knowing the snap count and when the defensive line consistently knows it too than you lose your overall advantage.


Also the playaction passing under Garrett has just been sooo non existent.


Trent Dilfer has been quoted as saying this is a coaches league. Everyone says its a QB league but he says its a coaches league and I buy into that.


Jason Garrett just isn't that special of a playcaller. But thats fine. He's the Head Coach now and he may be a terrific Head Coach.

I think the only thing that matters is how he does with the team. I really could care less about the JG love or the JG hate at this point. He needs to do his job.

The fundamental mistake on the goal line play was that you had ANYONE pulling. On that kind of a play every lineman goes straight ahead as hard as he can. its mano on mano and if you are any kind of an offense at all you score. You DO NOT GET CUTE down there.

I'm not saying JG is perfect, but it always gets summed up as "Cute" or "Great". Sometimes it's just the players.
