The Pet Cat Thread

Same as it's been,

Casey Matthews
Kenrick Ellis
Robert Sands

I don't consider supposedly highly ranked guys as pet cats, but there are quite a few of the higher up guys that I really like.

John Moffitt, G, Wisconsin
Kelvin Sheppard, LB, LSU

I'd love Sheppard.. anyone from that LSU defense i'd take on this team in a second.

Robert Quinn - Best pass rusher in the ENTIRE draft. He's a D. Ware clone. He's what BP would call a "catalytic player." He has to be accounted for on every snap. Just pull up some gameplay vids, and watch how he uses his hands, dips his shoulders as he coming off the edge. And ask yourself if those moves look familiar. He looks exactly like D. Ware. Now, he'll have to show he can play the OLB during the combine. If he does, he may not even be available for us at 9. I know he would create a log-jam at the OLB position, but so what. He's the best player in the draft... IMO.

Darcel Dareus - Safest DL pick in the draft. Not as dynamic as Fairly, but a better run stuffer and less bust potential. This returns us to the old Ware vs Merriman debate. Do you take the high character, less dynamic player, that has less level of competition in Ware. Or, do you take the lesser character, more dynamic, played against a higher level of competition Merriman? The fact that JJ overruled BP and said basically no way in heck would he ever draft Merriman tells you JJ likes the high character guys. So, Dareus gets the nod over Fairly (who I believe won't be on JJ draft board). JMO

Cameron Haywood
- Will start climbing up draft boards after Senior Bowl and Combine. He's a great 3-4 DE. Stout against the run, can provide pass rush, and has a good motor.

Tyron Smith - OT from USC. Kid recently announced he's entering draft. May be the best OLman in the entire draft.

Pouncy/Wisniewski - Either one will do.

(Noticeably absent from my list is Patrick Petersen. I believe he's too big at 220+ to play CB at the next level. And, I'd be reluctant in choosing a player high in the draft and project him to a position S he's never played before. That's very risky.)

Is "Pet Cat" slang for something?
Yes, I think it actually came from Bill Parcells, it is slang for having favorites.

After Rogers I can't touch an offensive linemen with that type of injury history again (O'Dowd).

Don't know how is health is now, but yes, O'Dowd has a list of injuries that rivals Schindler's.

Ben Ijalana (no I'm not a Villanova fan)

QB - Greg McElroy

RB - Roy Helu Jr.

FB - Owen Marecic

LT - Chris Hariston

LG - John Moffitt

C - Jake Kirkpatrick

RG - Wiz/Pouncey

RT - Gabe Carimi

TE - DJ Williams

DE - JJ Watts

NT - Ungots

ILB - Colin McCarthy

OLB - Don't care

CB - Patrick Peterson

FS - Not in love with any

SS - Tyler Sash

I'd like to add

Bruce Miller OLB Central Florida to my list.

Cant wait to watch him at the East/West game

I watch a lot of Montana football, so my pet cat (rumored to have been considering leaving early) is someone I've seen play a lot:

Trumaine Johnson, CB Montana 6'2, 197 Junior

Offenses threw away from him all season but he has NFL measurables, can return kicks and I could see him playing FS. I've seen him projected 4-7 round but think he could climb higher. Last year, my Montana pet cat Marc Mariani got snubbed at the combine and was drafted in the late 7th round. He made the Titans and was a threat returning punts and kicks all season.

Don't underclassmen have to declare soon? Seems like a gamble for a small-school prospect with a lockout looming. I guess we'll know soon enough.

Ok, doesn't look like Johnson is coming out. But Eastern Washington RB Taiwan Jones declared, so he'll be my pet cat. Injury history and size concerns will likely keep him in the back half of the draft, where it would make more sense for us. I don't get the size thing- he's not small or slight (6'0, 190) and does not fumble, period... Most explosive player in FCS, something about his running style reminds me of Dorsett:
