This has logic but the counter logic to it is why does it happen with every one of the contracts...for sure it happens other places but not every time. Other FO's seem to get thiers done sooner. Do i know its Jerry, no, can i read the history and logically say its Jerry..yeah thats a logical answer givin the facts.
I'm not sure it does happen with every contract. It may seem so because we just happen to be in a two year period of negotiating contracts with three of the highest profile players in the league. Those are the guys who have the swagger to wait for others to set the market for them.
It seems to get ignored here, but it is true that Dak turned down two very good offers, both of which would have put him at least top two in salary, before signing his first contract. One offer made to him after his third season as soon as league rules allowed. In those cases Dak very clearly chose to bet on himself and ride the market out as long as he could. He even forced a shorter than typical deal just to get back the market sooner.
I don't recall hearing about anyone other than the top tier elites having any difficulties or delays in their deals. Is there anyone besides Dak, Lamb and Parsons who negotiations are strung out to the bitter end?
I think the whole. 'could have gotten him cheaper' thing is a fallacy. The only way you get Dak, Lamb, or Parsons cheaper, regardless of what month you close the deal, is if they
choose to accept a cheaper deal. That's just not going to happen. They'd be crazy to not suck every cent they could get out of the billionaire who profits off them.
I do agree that it's in the best interest of the team to get the deals done early. It makes no sense from a team building aspect to string these out to the last minute. No sense at all. I think it matters very little from a financial aspect though.
