This is a gamble to save this season. Jerry will worry about next year.... next year.

Losing the #1 pick definitely takes out the potential prospect of going after a QB if Dak is a flop.

Plus if we used that pick for a WR you have 5 years to develop before opening up the checkbook.
Most of the good QB's this year are going to stay in School

I don’t think it matters. This move supports my notion they’re all in with Dak and to win this year. This was not a move for the future.

We’re going to try and surround Dak to prove Jerry was right.

And it would be even nicer if he had a plan for what to do if/when he cuts Garrett loose. If he just replaces one sycophant with another, it will just be more of the same. News from the not-so-current-affairs desk: The hubris of Mr. Jones had been the main problem with the team’s on-field results for decades. Until that changes, it doesn’t really who matter who becomes head coach.
This is the fundamental flaw in this organization. Jerry himself is this team’s biggest problem to overcome every season. He is surrounded by family and sycophants, and not just within his organization.

The local Dallas media used to call out Jerry’s incompetence more. I think the local journalists just get tired of repeating the same mantra of “Jerry is the problem”. But it remains to be true.

To me, it’s like a doctor telling a patient they have a serious disease for which there is a vaccine but the patient says, “No, I’m going to do it ‘my way’ “.

Dak plays perfectly into Jerry’s agenda to prove he had a good eye for talent in 4th round much like he’s determined to win without a proven HC.

Jerry still determined to prove he’s a Football Guy.

The pursuit for a legit HC is a hopeless quest. Jerry’s ways aren’t going to allow anything more than the puppetry we’ve had.

Greater coaching isn’t an option that’s going to put us over the top. The sooner we come to grips with this the sooner we can begin looking for other solutions.

I would like this more than once if I could

I don't know. It's hard to tell with a wildcatter. They'll secure land they know isn't gonna produce just to get a foothold on another that they believe will. Is this a move for this year or next? I guess only time will answer that question.

money money money money money money, mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooney

Jerry already had money. But he didn’t have the celebrity status of running a football team which has been his ambition since he tried to buy the Chargers.

Jerry loves football but didn’t want to be held directly accountable like a HC. And he loves to win but only if he received the credit he’s pursuing. And why winning championships with Jimmy wasn’t enough.

The money has only provided him the opportunity to continue his pursuit without consequences.

Is JJ saying “win now or else”? I hope so. But when has Jerry ever held Garrett accountable? JJ has been more comfortable with losing than he was with making changes. I can’t see this team making the playoffs even after this trade. Will Jerry pull the plug on his personal hand picked and groomed HC?
yup my thoughts are JG doesnt right the ship this season, he and the rest are fired , new staff, Dak and this offense will get pass to see if better more creative coaching and coaching decsions in game can once and for all put to rest whether Daks gets a new contract and is our GUY for the future..2019 will have a jump start with Dak and Amari, Gallup, current TEs to play some more together and open up consistency for next year..

If Jason Garrett is gone after this season, a new head coach coming in will first design the offense around his concept of scheme. That usually requires dumping of the present quarterback and going different directions...

I’d argue if we don’t win this year with Cooper we won’t pay him next year with 13 + million which he is due in final year of current deal.

I hope Dak isn’t a done deal and this could influence the decision but I’m concerned Jerry is already All In .

Unless Cooper poorly we will pick up his contract for next year. You just invested a #1 in him you will give him every opportunity to succeed even if it mean another year because this year we are only on the hook for $400K and next year $14 millions so it really is a 2 year $14.5 million deal. No way you are cutting him unless something extraordinary happens.

Cooper is a high risk high reward move. I don't see it as a win this year deal. At best, it's a win next year or else situation for staff and/or Dak. If the plan was to spend that #1 on a WR, it's a smart play. If Dak doesn't improve, 2020 will be finding his and Garrett's replacement.

Disagree. Cooper is low risk (proven commodity vs a draft pick which is a crap shot) but HIGH COST (1st rounder and $$) move.
Agree that this is not a win this year deal...although that's the company line.

I think this move is for Dak to prove that he's our franchise QB over the next 1 1/2 years. If he cannot perform then he won't see the next contract from Dallas. You can give all the excuses you want for Dak...ie...OL is bad, no TE..but no QB operates in PERFECT conditions. If you are the franchise QB, you have to be able to carry the team for a few games per year.

The trade was ill conceived , poorly timed, and questionably negotiated. How do you make this deal without at least a framework for an extension ? If Cooper decides he wants to play elsewhere in 2020 or test the market, he's a really costly rental.

That's why this trade is all about Dak IMO. This basically says to Dak that we are giving him #1 WR with #1 RB and #1 slot WR so you really don't have any excuses if you don't perform.
This is about finding out about Dak and if he will be our franchise QB or not.
