The Quarterback Accuracy Game

Not to mention that’s actually Donald Carr, David and Derek’s less talented brother.

I have heard it more than once that the Carr family is really just about the money and really didn't/don't give a hoot about winning in the NFL.
I would take Dak's gamer attitude over any of the Carr's arm accuracy/strength.

(Note: This game was inspired by Aikman's recent comments on the topic)

My opinion: Passing accuracy is a quarterback's ability to throw a catchable ball within a receiver's catch radius while avoiding direct interference from a defender.

Let's play a game (shaddup Antonio Banderas!)

Take two or more quarterbacks of your choosing. Write each quarterback's name and include a numbered list of 1 through 9 directly below each name. Example:

Each number coincides with the particular receiving route shown below. For example, #4 for each quarterback's list is the Curl route.

Here is the game's (not practice or warmups) scenario. Imagine it is any down and the offensive line is providing excellent protection but the quarterback must throw the pass to the receiver within a maximum of 4 seconds of the snap.

Using your personal perception of each quarterback's passing accuracy, assign one point for each route the quarterback can routinely throw a catchable pass regardless if the receiver drops the pass. Assign zero for each route the quarterback cannot routinely throw a catchable pass regardless if the receiver drops the pass. Then add the number of points for each individual list and arrive at a total for each quarterback. Example:

Quarterback Z
1. 1
2. 1
3. 0
4. 1
5. 1
6. 0
7. 1
8. 1
9. 0

Total: 6 points

Let's define routinely as throwing more catchable than uncatchable passes. For the purposes of the game, establish 2 or more catchable passes out of a total of 3 total passes thrown to each route as routine. Conversely, 1 or zero catchable passes out of 3 total passes is not routine.

The quarterback with the most points has demonstrated to you how accurate he is by comparison to other quarterbacks based on your own perception.

Please remember one thing. It is only a game. :p
How big are Quarterback Z's arms????

How big are Quarterback Z's arms????
33 inches in length.

His recliner is stationed two feet from his refrigerator door, making it a breeze grabbing a cold one during the game.

Now that I think about it... Drinking may be the reason why Quarterback Z cannot routinely throw the comeback route...

:p

I’ve literally never heard that once.

Catch radius for a receiver is the endpoint where a pass arrives to the receiver between their hands and body with their arms fully stretched. The center point in the graph above would illustrate the receiver's body and the circle represents the receivers' hands (again arms fully extended). A receiver can adjust their catch radius by jumping, diving, etc. but it is typically the area where the ball arrives via pass as a receiver runs his route.

As long as the ball lands on the same field somebody should catch it.

Mine where :
  1. Aikman. 9
  2. Romo. 9
  3. Danny white. 9
  4. Mahommes 9
  5. Mike white 7
  6. Kevin Costner 5
  7. Keanu Reeves 5
  8. My mailman 4
  9. The guy who spots me at the gym 4
  10. Vinnie the pizza guy 3
  11. Dak. 2

I still shake my head at this video every time it is reposted (y'all quit it! ) . It does not help inspire confidence that the targets are stationary.
Well, that's the problem. When Dak threw, the targets refused to move and make the catch. It's not Dak, it's those damn targets!!!!!!

ok,ok, ok, we all agree, Dak is the most accurate dink and dunker ever..... 75% for 160 yards. awesome....yes he is capable,he had a 450 yard game (first in 3 years)...he is awesome...let it go already...trust your eyes

I must redesign my quarterback accuracy game with that sort of thing in mind. It will give the game a real twist, like the Bankrupt thingy on the Wheel of Fortune spin wheel.

What WRs are we throwing to when figuring catch radius? A guy like Hopkins has a catch radius of like 20' and a guy like TWill has a catch radius of about 6".

:muttley:You folks are killing me.

it is any receiver or back thrown to. I cannot argue about Williams' catch radius (he does prefer catching passes with his body) but true catch radius is extended arms that are not bend.

Who was the QB from 3 or 4 years ago, Alex somebody. Had the video of all the trick shot throws.
Everyone thought he could be the next Tony but better.

Where is he now? Not in the NFL.

So, because some guy who did have deadly accuracy isn’t playing in the NFL, we should accept that players with serious accuracy issues will become great professional QBs?

Shouldn't timing and motion be part of this, since its such a huge part oft the equation in real life?
Plus, if you throw only when you're most comfortable and avoid throwing otherwise, it seems that would not tell the story either.
