The "Family" Theme

Anyone else real tired of the "family" theme?

I'm going to be honest. Before the Eagles game, when they were showing Dawkins getting his team ready and James getting his team ready, I was downright embarrassed.

I'm pretty sure James said something to the effect of "no matter what happens we're a family. Family on three!"

Then I see Dawkins going absolutely crazy.

It did not instill confidence in me, that's for sure. Every time I hear a player or Phillips say the word family in reference to the team, I cringe. The family stuff is garbage and needs to go, in my opinion.

Anyone else think the whole "family" theme needs to be scrapped? I don't see what the hell it does for the team, other than perhaps making them think everyone will still love each other regardless of who costs the team the game and no matter who tries their hardest.

Family for the lose, imo. :laugh2:

If running around screaming and looking like an idiot makes you a good team, then the Eagles should be a shoe-in. I was embarassed by watching a grown man like Dawkins acting like a WWE wrassler.

Yeah, the family thing is kind of wasted at this point because Wade won't spank any of the brats on the team. Also, the family looks at their daddy and thinks "what the hell, he ain't gonna do anything to me!"

Soft coach, soft players?

I have not seen a word from him in a long time. I wonder if he got orders to go somewhere....?

If the purpose is to fire your team up, and it works, who cares if you look like a WWE wrestler? Heck I wish we had just one player on our team with half the leadership ability of Dawkins.

And I'm definitely embarrassed to see my team talk about how they are a family then go out and get stomped 44-6.

Besides, teams that are actually families don't have to constantly reiterate it.

He and Leotis are still at the bar after the season finale.

Or, maybe they are in jail? That damn Leotis probably took CC out on the town!

I've been wanting to find as many pre-game videos (but I'm too lazy) and make a post about this. Every pregame speech I saw from the Cowboys made me sick to my stomach to watch. There might have been a good one out there this year but I never saw one. The ones I saw were the most uninspiring & contrived pre-game speechs I've ever heard.

Ranked up there with Wade's inspiring "Let the Cowboys ride" post game comments.

How in the world can Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett not see the difference in the overall vibe this team has after having had a front row seat of the team of the 90's?

I think the "family" concept could work if so many other pieces of the puzzle were'nt all jacked up to hell. Doesn't Ray Lewis mention family when he gets his team riled up?

Pregame speeches and fire-em-up sessions like this have to be the most overhyped thing in football.

They don't mean JACK.

Maybe they're an alcoholic family

Alcoholic aka "the Problem" = Wade Phillips
"Chief Enabler" = Jerry Jones
"Hero" = Jason Witten
"Scapegoat" = T.O.
"Lost Child" = Romo

The Spears rant before the Pittsburgh game was pretty good.

While I agree they can't possibly make much, if any, difference on the field, I believe they reveal the type of leadership a team has and how cohesive the team appears to be.

I think a cursury review of some of our pregame speeches this year compared to say, one given by Ray Lewis, will make this point readily apparent.

I admit I didn't see that one (which is why I tried to cover my *** by saying "every pregame speech I saw"--actually wrote "say", but that was a typo)

From the posts I've read of yours, I take you to be pretty pragmatic, so I'll take your word for it.
