Sold my 68 Firebird when I left to go in the Army.

Should have kept it and sent money back to have it worked on and so on.

I still regret selling that car.:banghead:

My Dad went to his grave with one of those regrets... when we went to Germany in 1967, we were allowed to ship over one of our cars, but only one... he decided to ship over this Lincoln, which he liked mostly for its suicide doors... and once we got it over there, there were a lot of places we couldn't take the damned thing, because the roads were so freakin' narrow in town...

We sold the second car right before we left, when we could have left it stored in the garage at the family home in Hagerstown...

The second car was a 1957 Bel Air convertible, with the dual quad 283 and the Powerglide auto... black and silver, with the Matador Red and silver interior... continental kit, the works...

Those suckers are going for like 150 grand these days, in good condition... :bang2:

I accidentally put charcoal in a gas grill. I picked up the wrong bag from my tool shed and really was not paying attention to it. After I cooked my steak, I turned off the gas, but the flames were still going as one can imagine. I went to have dinner and my wife said to me that the grill was smoking. I went to check and I noticed that the charcoal was disintergating into dust. I looked at the bag and realized what I did. What a mess to clean up. :bang2:

I had a 1969 Camaro convertible with both SS and Ralley Sport equipment and traded it in on a Peugeot when our first baby was born. I still kick myself every time I think about it.

Tell me about it.

At least I still have my 55 Bel Air Convertible. I had it when my wife and I were dating in 1967, and taught her to drive in it. Gave $70 bucks for it. I gave it to my little brother with the understanding that I would get it back whenever he got another car. He was true to his word and the restification (restoration/modification) was completed about 6 years ago.

I have a friend (well, I haven't seen him in about 8 years). When we were kids his dad used to have a black 55' Chevy Deluxe. Everything was factory issue except the wheels. He had put Cragar Classic SS wheels on it.

Everytime he used to leave the garage open, people would knock on the door and ask him how much he wanted for it. :laugh2:

OK, for everyone that reads this, you post something that you did.

So it's Saturday morning and I'm mowing the yard with my riding mower. As I am watching a wall of stacking blocks to my left as not to hit them, I hear a big crash. I just ran over one of the dogs food bowl...and it was metal.

As I set the brake and get off, the mower stalls. I continue to look over the mower and pickup what is left of the bowl. I get back on the mower, turn the key, but nothing. Won't turn over, absolutely nothing. I'm thinking that somehow, a piece of the bowl cut one of the wires to one of the saftey switches.

I push this thing around to the garage and look for anything obvious but no luck. I get the tools out and start taking the hood and side panels off to get a better look. As I come to the left of the mower, I saw the problem...the mowing deck was still engaged!!!!!!!:

Before mine was restored it was sitting in an RV parking area on the side of my house covered with a tarp. People recognized the profile and were stopping all the time trying to buy it.

edit: One funny thing though, some fools stole my Honda Accord out of my driveway and left the '55 sitting there. lol

I agreed to be the executor of my stepmother's will, even though I hated her immensely. My Dad asked me to do it right before he died and I told him I would. I gave him my word, so I honored it.

Among her many putrid qualities, she is was a chronic liar, she swindled thousands from people, including stealing my "pre-paid tuition" college fund that my Mom and I had paid into as well as my Dad. This forced me to take out student loans and pay my own way. My Dad tried to pay back as much as he thought was owed, but we had a falling out over the last fifteen thousand, so I ended up eating it. Years went by before my Dad and I spoke again. I never even got an apology from my stepmother.

Time healed and my Dad and I got our relationship back again. Despite his obvious fault of loving a shrew, he was a great man, well liked, decorated war veteran and I respected him a lot.

My Dad had done everything to make sure a normal person would live quite comfortably after he passed. He was also in the process of putting those savings in an account under my name to ensure that my stepmother would get a comfortable allowance but not have access to the whole thing. But, he passed away before that was completed. As a result, my stepmother burned through those savings in a year and absolutely destroyed his house that he took so much pride in.

So I now have to deal with the many angry creditors that she has burned over the last few years, all because I gave my word to my Dad.

Just....Plain....Stupid

I'm confused. Both have passed away right? There shouldn't be a whole lot of trouble to deal with. Whatever assets exist (if any) that creditors have claim over, you have them paid until those assets are gone or the debt is paid off. Then you execute the Will that divides the leftover and unclaimable assets. (life insurance etc) You're done with those issues and move along. As long as your name didn't exist on those debts, they are not your problem once your fathers and stepmothers claimable assets are gone.

The biggest problem I had was dealing with the real estate. Due to the market failing, my mother owed more than the house was worth. (she had just moved about 2 years before) The mortgage company would not settle for what I could sell it for. They wanted me to pay the six grand difference. The market was getting worse and I finally told them, take the short sell or take deed in lieu. Apparently, they thought I was bluffing and would end up paying. They got deed in lieu and I blocked their phone calls. They ended up selling the house after I gave them the deed for $27k less rather than the $6K less than they would have gotten if they would have just accepted the short sell. Funny thing is, I had the value of the house in the sell, just not all the closing cost. :bang2:

Anyone wonder why Countrywide Financial went defunct? Idiots running the show pretty much explains it.

It is a little deeper than that.

Many of the creditors are locals in the small town that she lived in. Some are actually relatives. She bilked quite a few. They knew my Dad and respected him, so they had no issues floating my stepmother who lied about having to get her finances in order after my Dad's death.

They are now flaming mad at the prospect of losing large dollar sums to this lady. Even after selling off her assets, there will not be enough to pay all of her creditors, so my grandmother, who has lived there her entire 93 years and is either friends or related to the entire town, is forced to hear how the locals were taken by her family. It is not what she deserves at this stage in her life so I am having to meet with each one of them, explain the situation and try to "make it right".

I am trying to negotiate settlements with the major companies for less than is owed so that I can pay the locals their full amounts, but it is a slow process and they are getting more and more restless about it.
