We are now playing to win instead of playing not to lose. Huge difference.

Garrett/Phillips seem to have that Jimmy Johnson mentality. I have been missing that for quite a few years now.

It's amazing the miracle of a two game win streak; all ills of the past are forgotten, we have our scapegoat (Parcells), new heroes (Wade and Garrett), different philosophies, etc. The more things change, the more they stay the same. We had a top ranked defense and offense going into the stretch run the last two seasons and the wheels came off. Our defense played lights out against the vaunted Indy SB team and our offense was top 5. All this is nothing new but we act as if it is.

We can gamble in the 4th quarter when we have a two possession lead with shear minutes to play but the moment the ball gets picked, this board is going to blow up with the "why didn't we give it to Marion" posts."

We won and I'll take it; my days are always brighter after a win. But I won't reserve any SB tickets until I see what this team does down the stretch.

Under BP: we often tried to sit on leads, which led to us blowing the game in the 4th quarter
Under WP: so far we have kept our foot on the pedal in the 4th quarter and have dominated in the later stages in the game

Under BP: we would often get off to a good start during the regular season, but it would be somewhat "wasted" with a 2-4 record over the last 6 games in all four years of his tenure in dallas.
Under WP: this is yet to be determined but i believe that the 4th quarter "kill shot" attitude will translate to us being more successful in the second half of the regular season. I believe that we will even be stronger in the later stages of the year(especially the defense with all of our injured players getting back) and it will give us momentum going into the playoffs.

The win streak has nothing to do with it. If we would have scored the same amounts and STILL lost I would have create this thread.

Times are changing.... and its about time... and its a good thing.....

It was absolutely that TD on fourth down that cemented Wade's era in Dallas. Can you imagine BP calling something like that? It's either a run with Julius up the middle, a punt or a shanked field goal by one of the five billion shatty kickers BP ran through town because he didn't respect the position.
:laugh2: So true, but funny just the same.:laugh2:

If you don't see the difference between the last 2 seasons and the way this offense is run now, well, I don't know what to tell you.

Come on now Mick, you wouldn't be talking about the "kill shot" or our killer instinct had we lost both games. We may be talking about how we'd be 2 and 0 if we would have gone for the FG, or run MBIII up the gut, etc...just like we always do around here. We try and rationize the "what if's" because it makes us feel better; that we were that close. Listen, I don't expect my thoughts on the subject to be well received by many here, especially after a win.

But I saw a D that played better than last week but would have been picked apart by a better QB than Green, who missed some wide open receivers.

All I'm saying is that I'll need to see more before I annoint some people saviors.

Absolutely I would.

It would not be the first time that I posted something like that.... flashes in the past that were never fully realized. I think we realize it this year.

"well received"? - actually I understand your viewpoint. I just think that its not the case.

Would you have said this if we lost " But I saw a D that played better than last week" ?

What *I* see happening here is... a revisiting of sorts to the days of dominance of the 90's(offense-wise). Who better to take us there than a man that was part of it, Garret. THAT is why I started this thread... win or lose. I see whats happening here... others do too...

I see a team that's 2 and 0 with our QB of the future and a suspect defense. I still see a team that runs both RB's and will give the ball to MBIII for the tough yardage and goal line situations. TO will score a ton of TD's, just like last season. MBIII will bruise his way and score at the goal line, just like last season. Witten continues be a Pro Bowl TE.

What....because we went for it on 4th down in no man's land is some unique coaching philosophy? The O was never really the problem last year. You guys critique this team as if it was dead last in offense last season. I like JG, he's doing a great job as OC and he gives us hope that he can take over as HC after Phillips.

But you can't tell what we're going to do down the stretch and on D which is where this team stumbled two years in a row. Mr. Fix it hasn't fixed it yet. He can coach penalties, unlike BP. Of course, Adams doesn't know that yet. A win is a win and the sky is bright in my world right now. But I'll just temper my enthusiasm a little.

Agreed. But we will need to develop a strong consistent running game to run the clock out when we need to.... passing and going for kill shot will not work all the time.... the FACT that he is establishing it will allow teams to wonder and KNOW that it can happen....

so running the clock out and kill shot go hand in hand... IF you only try to run the clock out... teams know... they load and stop the run and get the ball back <-- our achilles heel before

The biggest difference is WHEN we go to a "run the clock out" game plan. Under BP you could have a 10 point (or less) lead in the middle of the 3rd quarter and he would start trying to run the clock out. Now we wait until there's 2 or 3 minutes left if we're up by 10 or more.

BP's philosophy was that if you win the TOP, then you win the game most of the time. It lost a few games for us.

If we had lost the last two games we wouldn't have had a lead to protect. Either that or we would have lost the game BP style where we played the game so close that a good play at the end by the other team beat us.

I agree with your main point that we need to see what happens over the long haul before we "crown our arses".

Well, since Dallas is 2-0 for the first time since 1999, you'll forgive some of the people that don't want to look at things your way. This "O" and Romo were accused of sputtering some down the stretch in those critical games against the Saints and Eagles. Not to mention that insanely conservative game against the DB scrubs that Seattle threw out in the playoffs last year. People are happy that the coaches are playing to the strengths of the offense, not writing them up as the next Superbowl champs, Mr. Sunshine. :)

It's almost back topick your poison time. We have TO and Wide receivers that can cause mismatches, Witten can hurt you at TE and MB3 Brings a power back that can wear you down and make plays. Behing a line that can maul you and a QB that can make the right decisions.

And a coach that is smart and aggressive.

How bout them Cowboys!

The fact that you have the biggest OL in all of football with the addition of Leonard Davis also plays a part...if time of possession is in your favor the other teams are gonna tire and break.

Davis was a great signing...I was hoping he'd be a Skin this year.

Some interesting numbers

It seems we are developing that "put them away killer instinct".

Againt the Giants we scored 28 in 2nd half
A pair of TD's in each Qtr.

Againt the Dolphins we scored 27 in 2nd half
17 pts in 4th qtr

We now play the FULL 60 minutes.

Dude it's GREAT to see the team manning up and balling for 60. I mean... Geez. This is waaaay overdue. You know we, the fans of America's Team, have gotten spoiled and demand more championships. :D Seriously, it's truly a pleasure to see and I think the Wade/Jason two headed monster is going to take this team far. We're only seeing the early results of one full training camp under these guys. Wait til we REALLY hit our stride and Wade gets that defense clicking. It's going to be a scary proposition for other teams to have to game plan for the Cowboys.
