We lost the game because we were thoroughly outcoached.

This is a common theme in the Garrett Era. McVay is brilliant- our coaches are stuck in the Stone Age.
It was Wade Phillips gameplan for the Rams D that exhibited the coaching prowess that day.

Total possessions. We only had 8 possessions in the entire game.
Dude the Rams only had 9 possessions the whole game. The problem with Dallas wasnt just the defense it was the offense in the first half had some real duds. The Rams had one more possession but the total plays tell more. The Rams had 76 offensive plays to Dallas 55. Biggest problem was Dallas couldnt run the ball or stop the run. It may not sound like much but Dak had two drives in the first half that he went 3 and out. When Dallas couldnt stop the run that killed the team. When you look at the stats of the game it appears Dak out performed Goff but look at Daks 3rd down efficiency in the box score. He was 1-10 while Goff was 5-11. Those few more completions by Goff was what enabled the Rams to keep the ball and run it down the throat of the Cowboys. But Goff didnt need to do much because that wasnt the game plan. Rams had 48 Rushing attempts to Dallas 22 attempts. This was a team loss for Dallas but Dak isnt exempt from fault.

Everything's already been said on this thread. Offense going 3 and out for 2 drives happens a lot. If you think that's not commonplace in that time of the year for any team, you clearly hold this team to way high unobjectionable standards and maybe you'll watch Kansas City going 3 and out in the first half with just 3 possessions and see what happens.

Point is.... offense going 3 and out twice in one half is way more common than a defense giving up 273 yards rushing. Let's point the finger at the more egregious stat. I realize the offense is putting a lot more pressure on the defense by going 3 and out, but even if that situation arises the defense is still not supposed to play that poorly. Not give up 290 yards at halftime anyways. You're the #5 defense. They're supposed to get at least one stop or two. They got none. That's just an all-around meltdown. And it sticks out like a sore thumb. A bad game happens though, I realize. It is a team loss, which is why you have to look at it like a team loss. Offense wasn't great, defense was terrible. At the end... we still had 22 points scored which I'll take given the conditions, but obviously defense has to play way better than that. It's not unrealistic to think that if we had a better defensive effort for our last two playoff losses, we could've won those games. But we've never won any playoff game giving up 30 points.

You're the #5 ranked defense. A bad game happens though, I realize. It is a team loss, which is why you have to look at it like a team loss. Offense wasn't great, defense was terrible. Already said it was a team loss but you can't excuse the one ugly stat that says 3rd down efficiency was 1-10. But we know that because it's a team loss.

I still say we were outcoached that game on both sides of the football. No one talks about the Rams getting up to the line of scrimmage early so McVay can help his QB call the right plays for what defense we were in. Couldn't do that against the Pats in the Super Bowl because they were ready for it.
