The reason we did not draft a RB,

This may be merged but I think it deserves it's own thread. The reason we were a run first team last year was to burn clock to protect the defense. It was never about protecting Romo but rather the defense. I think they are believing we have upgraded the defense to a point where they can take care of themselves rather relying on the offense to keep them off of the field. Linehan has never been a run first OC until last year when our poor defense demanded it so why does everyone think he will keep on doing the same thing as our defense improves?

You have to look at the big picture. One year of running first does not a running team make when the OC and the HC have a history of being pass first guys.

Note: For the sake of argument, I do not completely agree with this philosophy completely but I think it is the plan.

We have to impose our will on the ground.

Our schemes are that of a middle school team so the only way we will beat teams is to out athlete them because we aren't fooling anyone.

Fan spin. There's no question it helped hide an awful defense but it also balances your offense, wears down the opposing defense and makes life easier on the aging QB.

I do not believe they intend to change offensively. Now they may have to if these backs can't produce but I don't think that's the plan.

This is about managing uncertainty. Your logic assumes certainity. Had one of the two backs drop to us in the 1st we probably pick a RB. They didn't so we selected BPA in an area of need.

We signed McFadden in case the draft fell the way it did. We never liked a RB in the spot we were picking. The whole point of this approach is to avoid reaching for guys.

But the plan here wasn't so linear. It simply allowed for the options to present themselves.

I was thinking elementary school. When you routinely have one of the most effecient QBs, WRs and TEs as well as the leading rusher last year that's 3rd-4th grade scheme stuff.

We can't rely on Romo to buy time and make almost every big play outside of the scheme anymore.

Running Williams and Dez 20 yards down the sideline every route won't cut it anymore.

We have to run the football

I think this IS what Garrett has wanted to do all along. At least have more balance. They lost faith in the run game due to a travesty of a oline. I also think Garrett wasn't the greatest play called as far as offensive rhythm goes.
Neither is the case now, nor will it be in the foreseeable future.

They will run the rock.
They will throw the rock too. :)

I am not arguing or debating this with anyone but rather looking at history. Both Garret and Linehan are pass first guys typically. I do not think this can be argued too much???? I think they were dictacted to run first to protect the defense last year. We lose our #1 rusher while improving the defense(on paper at least) and do not make serious attempts to replace the top rusher??? Look at the logic. Again, I am not saying I agree with this philosophy but our action are dictating this is what the team is thinking.

You're embarrassing yourself. The Cowboys must have some historic talent to put up the numbers they do every year with middle school level schemes.

And we drafted some of the best athletes. .....so what's your point. We brought in FBs and RB. This team already said they will run the ball but we will be balanced

Well I'm glad our new probable starter averaged 2 yards per carry MORE than Demarco behind the exact same line. And no game ending fumbles either.

We had two themes going:
1) Keep our defense off the field
2) Buy Romo time to heal

And so we leaned on Murray a great deal, he got paid and we won some postseason games..

Moving Fwd I believe Romo might try to throw 25-30 times a game. He seems to be getting stronger and by the time Game 1 comes around he should be primed to go...

I hope he can be productive with a full time load. He or Ryan Williams.

Yeah...I agree with this guy. There is a reason Romo was so dominant at the end of the season. defenses were cheating against the run. I don't want to lose that ability.

Cowboys have said they are not abandoning the run why do fans not listen. We are not throwing the ball 50 times a game this year.

If you could run to protect a bad defense, why wouldn't you still run even if you had a great defense?

If you can keep your defense off the field, why wouldn't you?

Quite simply.... It's the cowboy way!

I am not being sarcastic, it just is!
