The Patriots way and the Jimmy Johnson way is/was to just keeping adding talent and see who can contribute. Don't get bent out of shape about any one player other than the QB. Maybe Lawrence can step up or maybe it one or multiple of the other options like Taco, Tapper, etc..

I see Taco and Lawrence as left ends and Tapper/Mayowa as right ends. Taco and Lawrence are more naturally suited to play the left side. They just don't have the burst to play on the right side.

Disagree on Taco.

He is physically similar to Greg Hardy who would be one of if not the very best RDE in the league if he didn't have mental problems.

He hasn't quite been almost Anthony good. But you are
He's been a little better then average.

Another almost Anthony type.

It will be interesting to see. I would be ok being wrong on this. If he turned into a Hardy without the problems that would be great.

I think you are a very informed poster, but I hesitate to draw the same conclusion you do in this instance. I think Hardy is a bit of an outlier rather than the norm. Hardy got it done with excellent physicality. While it is true that Tacos forte' is going to be power rather than speed I'm not sure you can say he is on Hardy's level.

Most of the guys who excel on the right side have speed and power or at least speed and excellent technique. Taco is likely going to ultimately be strong against the run because he is bigger and stronger than the average DE. I'm just not sure we are going to see elite pass rushing numbers from him.

I guess time will tell on this. I'm not saying Taco cannot succeed on the right side. No one knows that for sure. But I hope we don't try to put a square peg into a round hole on forcing him to play on the right side, when he might really excel on the left side. I think his lack of true speed is less critical on the left side going against less dominant tackles. That's just my theory.

Just remember, Greg Hardy was a 6th round pick that didn't become Greg Hardy until his 3rd year in the league. We always expect instant production but it doesn't often happen that way, especially for a guy that wasn't a high first rounder.

It looks like they go with Taco as the early down RE and kick him inside and have the Tapper/Mayowa types on passing downs. Tapper & Taco inside is already being used that way in OTAs.

The only production I have seen out of Demarcus Lawrence was when Greg Hardy was getting all the attention on the other side.
Other than that he has been just another guy unfortunately.

Hopefully he can stop being a guy who seems like it doesn't matter when he is in the game.
The pass rush improved when he was out, that proved imo that he's a JAG.

He does not really lack "speed". His 10 yard time was very close to the much smaller pass rushers and his 3-cone was better than 3 pass rushers drafted ahead of him.

He probably could have dropped 5 pounds and improved his 10 yard time to be the 2nd best of all 1st round pass rushers and he would still have outweighed all but Myles Garrett.

Tapper dropped 11 pounds since the 2016 draft.

I really want to see this group of defensive linemen in a camp setting...
