Breaking any finger on your passing hand, pinky or not, can have devastating long-term career consequences. Will Romo ever be the same again? Will he still be able to grip the ball at full strength, maintain his quick release, and most importantly be accurate for the rest of this season (or ever again for that matter)? Maybe Romo's return won't be all it's cracked up to be.. still though, Gimpy Romo >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Brad and Brooks

In the aftermath of this injury, I wouldn't be surprised to see more early Romo... making plays with his legs, getting out of the pocket and making throws on the run

I've been wondering the same thing. There's a good chance he won't return to form, at least in the short term. Those first few passes will be highly scrutinized.

you mean there's a part of the cowboys that isn't highly scrutinized around here?

Dude, chill, he'll be fine when the bone heals.

well we saw how a significantly less serious injury effected his game at the end of last season, i'm just worried that something like this can have devastating long-term consequences

and as someone who has a broken bone injury, i can tell you it takes a hell of a lot longer than 4 weeks for a bone break to fully heal

I'd be worried if it was his thumb. Pinky? you gotta be kidding.

No, I see it the other way.

I'm expecting him to be at his best. He's had a nice long rest.

More time than the finger required and plenty of time to recover from any other aligments.

You know their has been talk of a thumb injury.

He's also had a chance to take a step back and analyze his own game.

I'm certain we see Romo at his absolute best in Washington.

on the contrary, YOU gotta be kidding.. quarterbacks who use the conventional grip (like Romo) put the most pressure on their pinky when gripping the football, the thumb is used more to steady the football upon release in order to ensure a tight spiral

i hope you're right, but i disagree that he's had sufficient time to fully recover from the break

bone breaks take months, even years, to fully heal

Often, the bone comes back stronger than before.
It does not take years to heal, especially for this type.

Romo at 1/2 is better than Johnson. Romo at 3/4 is better than Johnson ever was.

Romo at 100% makes me straight excited.

I don't think this will be an issue; bones usually come back stronger after a break. He's actually getting 4 weeks (bye week) before any serious contact. I'm not worried about any re-breaking, or any lack of grip.

sometimes you get in a routine of how to go about things. you see everything in a straight a narrow path that you think is right. it takes something like a injury to give you time to step back and re-evaluate things. i expect romo to come back refreshed, re-energized and refocused.

He will be fine....the pinky on the throwing hand is used mainly for balance. Its the first finger off of the ball. If it were the forefinger middle finger or thumb(the last fingers off the ball) Id be worried.

For all the people that are sure to scrutinize his first thorws, I hope JG's first play calls 4 or 5 running plays...LOL

No seriously, I hope the first call is a flea-flicker

I'm no doctor. I can't speak to this concern about the bone's strength.

I do know this was originally diagnosed as an up to 4 week injury. He will he will have 5 weeks. Don't see aproblem here.

i think after 4 or 5 weeks the pain resulting from gripping the ball will be considerably reduced, but in actuality the bone won't be even close to fully healed

and as one poster already mentioned, yes the bone does grow back stronger due to calcium deposits but to see any kind of drastic strengthening it really needs to be fractured (not fully broken) repeatedly and ample time between fractures to heal
