The RIGHT Choice

Funny, don't know if you guys talked about it, but in the pregame Kristi Scales said Jerry pretty much admitted he shouldn't have said those things about Tashard, and apologized.

You just wonder why JG has been so committed to Barber when it was clear he wasn't special anymore (if he ever really was).

I really think it's a the combination of everything Barber gives you when he doesn't have the ball in his hands, plus the tone he sets with his style when he does. Garrett's a big fan of wearing teams down physically over the course of a game, and I think Barber's got qualities in that regard that he valued more than ypc.

That said, Jerry sure sounded after the game like he thinks Tashard is going to be the number two back going forward. I'm sure he didn't come to that conclusion without input from JG.

While I was only one of many that have wanted to see Choice get more opportunities, I am very pleased to have tooted his horn over the past two seasons.

To me it is not rocket surgery to recognize TC as a running back.

I take nothing away from Felix either. I love having them both.

My ability to recognize a solid RB stems from watching our local high school the past 40 years.

We have run the ball almost 100% of the time so I have seen many many many different RB's over the years, and it is not always the fastest, the biggest or the shiftiest that make the best backs.

I have seen kids become great backs and have great years that you never would expect just because they run straight ahead and get what is there.

Some coaches get enamored with speed, but speed does not a running back make.

The best backs hit the hole hard on every play and they run north and south. They move the chains, they get what each play gives, they never run backward or lose yards.

Does that describe the leading rusher in NFL history or what? Emmit was not the biggest, or the fastest, or the shiftiest, .. but he always ran north and south, never lost yardage, and ran straight at the defense.

Choice is the same type of back. His style would have been perfect for our local high school. He possesses many of the same qualities that Emmit did.

Now don't think I am saying Choice will be the next Emmitt. I'm not. I'm just saying that his strengths are similar strengths that made Emmitt the special back that he was.

He is not the brute that Barber was, he does not have the breakaway speed that Feilx does, but he will move the chains and sustain drives. Nothing fancy, he just gets the job done.

I hope moving forward that Tashard gets his chances to contribute every game.

dont you think jerry was using the media to motivate him...it worked

His lack of carries this season have been very frustrating. What more does the man have to do??? Everytime he's given an opportunity he's proven himself capable

Except on special teams.

Such as? Please don't say blocking.

I hope we caught a glimpse of the future on Sunday. Choice and Felix, contrasting players. Could make an extremely effective 1-2 punch. Don't care who starts. Just give them both the ball and they'll play well.

while ill probably get some flack by the jones crowd. IMO he is a 3rd down back. Id like to see choice on 1st and 2d down on a consistent basis.

i agree tho either of them could start.

the difference IMO is vision and choice's ability between the tackles. And he's just a hair faster then jones in making a decision at hole to attack

Choice doesn't need Jerry's motivation... He's self motivated.

Felix is ANYTHING but a 3rd down back.:laugh2:

He's the guy you want in there trying to move the chains? Really?

He'd be a nice change of pace back. Honestly i think the smartest thing to do would be split the carries and ride the hot hand.

How long is MB3 hurt? I've been a big fan of TC since the end of 08-09 after what he did to some of the top D's in the league. I hate to wish injury on any player especialy our own but I think the only way TC gets a fair shake is if MB3 is injured and TC shows what he can do another week or two. It's in the best interest of the team.
