So we all know the phrase Jason Garrett phrase. He uses it all of the time. He says the team wants the "right kind of guy".

Here is a quote from him concerning this type of player/person -- “someone who loves to play football, who is very passionate about it, willing to work hard at it, willing to be part of a team, willing to be part of something that is maybe greater than himself. We want a guy who has an ego. Egos are important. But ego in the context of what we’re trying to accomplish as a team. Guys who are willing to work, are great teammates – there’s always going to be a place for those guys.”

So here is my thought... We all know the type of guy this organization supposedly wants. But is a total contradiction!

On one hand, we imply that Hardy is not the right type of guy - that he is no longer part of this team's plans. Then, on the other hand, we have guys like McClain, Lawrence, Scandrick, and Gregory. Those guys are supposedly great teammates, they work hard and have the right type of ego, etc. Everything that Garrett wants. But then we have them go and get suspended for a quarter of the season.

Of course, I know it's impossible to police every single individual on a team, so don't think I'm implying that is what we should be doing. I'm just saying I think it's funny that we shun someone like Hardy or a player like him who carries that extra personal baggage around with them. And then someone who isn't really a "distraction" or "locker room cancer", goes and hurts the team way more by being stupid and failing drug tests.

I guess this is more of a rant than anything else. I'm pissed that we have such stupid, selfish players who obviously don't care about the team enough to do the right thing. But I just wish we would take more calculated risks on guys. If the potential upside is great, take the chance on him!!! Because obviously this RKG thing still has its problems.

I like the RKG organizational philosophy. Guys will still find ways to make mistakes. These men are young adults. We know the locker room is strong. I hope guys like Tony and Witt surround Lawrence. Right now he needs his teammates, who he let down, more than anything.

Hardy was late for meetings, was selfish in his behavior, and created constant distractions with his interviews. He constantly was taking attention away from the team and focusing it directly onto himself.

That isn't a RKG.

He could have had the domestic violence problems but still come in to Dallas, made it to meetings on time, said the right things to the media and worked towards helping the defense win some games. Garrett and the Cowboys would still be standing behind him to this day, and he would have a new contract with the Cowboys.

Instead, he acted in a manner that was anything but what Garrett means when he says RKG.

I love his talent and was all for signing him last year. Now, I don't want him near the team. That is his fault. His childish behavior and self-centered attitude caused me to get out of his corner.

Gregory, Lawrence, etc. haven't done anything like that. They can fail a drug test and still be RKG's. Big difference.

Jason Garrett needs to shut his stupid mouth and hope Tony can save his job a few more years.

We need to stop drafting dumb players. Just avoid them. That should solve most of our issues off the field.

Nah... Denver won with dumb players everywhere but Manning is the face of it.

Dallas needs to do the same thing because Romo will be the guy that gets 99% of the credit.

Emmitt slept in meeting all the time. Just as bad if not worse than what Hardy reportedly did. The interview stuff was fine. The media created that nonsense and it was a joke. Garrett failed by not supporting him in that situation. I can understand Hardy not feeling like the team had his back after that. Huge fail by the team.

And this is the Cowboys. I'll never understand the whole "distraction" worry. There will always be something the media brings up in Dallas.

To each their own, Brother.

How did I never hear that Emmitt Smith slept in team meetings?

I was thinking the same thing, and I'm a huge Cowboys historian. I've read all the books, seen the documentaries, and the ONLY thing I can recall was Jimmy Johnson "A Football Life", when Jimmy used Emmett as a FIGUREATIVE example of how he treated his star players different than he treated his others. He said something like "if John Roper goes to sleep, I cut his m. If Emmitt goes to sleep, I nudge him and say wake up".

Nowhere in there did I get anything that hinted at it being habitual.

Lol. "I'd get him a pillow." And even that I thought was re Aikman.

To be fair one is the all time greatest at his position and the other can barely manage to maintain being the best at his position on his current team.

Every team essentially has the "RKG" philosophy. Let's face it, no team WANTS troublemakers and/or problems. We just have a coach that thinks it's important, for whatever reason, to talk about it like it is somehow different.
